Readers will have no doubt Nia has healed from her childhood trauma and the racism she went through. While I enjoyed the memoir, I rather it have been written in a way that told a story rather than stating events and feelings like a listed out timeline. I wanted to hear more about her feelings toward big moments that stuck with her, and I felt she simplified her feelings a bit. Fans of the show, Nia, and Holly definitely should read this book.

A modern classic that encompasses many genres into one single novel. Overall this book is HEAVY. Spanning from 1975-2001, and how childhood trauma can span not only a lifetime but also place you on a new and dangerous path lead by obsession and tragedy.

Thank you Libro.FM for the ALC!
An unapologetic and meticulous tale of a young woman seeking to be loved and wanted while going through the tribulations of high school, poverty, and finding oneself. McCurdy does not shy away from the graphic nature of the sexual encounters in this book. While the FMC is a victim of circumstance, Waldo understands there is toxicity in the choices she makes and how she behaves, while also exposing the abuse in power by the MMC, and the emotional abuse by the FMC’s dysfunctional mother. This novel demonstrates that no matter how desensitized society becomes, writing can still leave readers reeling.
