I thought this was going to be a SOLID 4.5 star read until I got to the VERY short-lived and completely unnecessary third act breakup. Though I know this wasn't the intention, I thought the climax ignored Misery's character growth as she became more active in her own life. A change I really enjoyed watching. And I thought Lowe was doing a REALLY good job balancing his desires with wanting to have a healthy relationship but the breakup was so out of character it totally took me out of the relationship. Especially because early in the book, there's a snippet that makes it clear that he's just hoping she comes around on her own - something she just said is true and is incredibly obvious. So I don't understand why he wouldn't believe her.

I skipped every single sex scene because the romance was honestly the least interesting part of this book. Stephanie should have fallen in love with Ulda - I did.

Does anyone have recommendations for books that are somewhat similar to the show iZombie (recs don’t necessarily need to be zombie themed)? I know the comics exist and I do want to read those at some point! I really miss iZombie and the vibe it has, and I am planning to get the DVDs since it’s not free to stream at the moment, but I just need something to fill the iZombie shaped void in my heart lol.

The third act breakup removes at least half a star, honestly. It is pointless, shortly resolved, and - in my opinion - utterly out of character for two people who have prior not mucked about and let any miscommunication fester. In fact, our couples' dogged pursuit of clarity and communication in the earlier chapters was one of my favorite parts so it hurt even more when we decided to toss that straight out the window for a handful of pages.
Other than that. It was wonderful.
