The very climactic beginning of this book set my expectations really high just to be met with a plot that drags with very low stakes moments of intensity throughout the rest of the book. Overall I ended up feeling very "meh" about this book. I did really appreciate the teacher perspective and the morals the MC held for herself as a teacher and leader of young people.

I am growing tired of the formulas. Regular girl is secretly special! Dangerous stranger is so handsome and secretly nice! This ancient feud was secretly a big misunderstanding! Don’t get me wrong, none of these are bad and I love it when they’re done well but I just need something different.
I’m looking for recs that feel completely different than anything else you’ve read. No “for fans of,” no “Noun of Noun meets Bowl of Mac and Cheese.” Books that leave you at a loss for anything to compare them to.

Okay people, I have to ask this question. Do you know how to pick locks or do you know someone who actually knows how to pick locks? I swear there's always some random character in every book I read who knows how to and I've never met someone who can do it. It's kinda bothering me so please share your personal knowledge of lock picking pleaaase
Edit: I have read all you answers and I love them, thank you!! Maybe I'll get into it and try to learn as it doesn't seem difficult 👀
