I didn't expect The Ascended to completely rip my heart out like that.
From the beginning this book absolutely hooked me, it dug it's claws into me and didn't let go. I absolutely devoured everything possible about this book.
From Thatcher and Thais being two twins who mean absolutely everything too each other. One doesn't exist without the other pretty much and both would sacrifice themselves and anyone else if it meant saving the other. Now that is a true family bond.
Now onto the powers with the Aesymare, Gods, Legends, Primordial, and finally the blessed. I liked how not only do the authors' provide a pronunciation guide, you also have detailed world building and a proper explanation of not only the powers of them all but also the politics that surround Voldaris.
And then there is Thais and Xül and the completely delicious tension going on between the two of them. How she goes from just being a Mentee and him her Mentor to what they become is so beautiful but also absolutely devastating because he has to give that up in favor of a political marriage and he tries to fight it but when his Father threatens not only him but the one thing Xül holds dear, he gives in.

I really liked this story with it's witches, demons, magic, and curses. I also liked how it applied every day magic as well with protection spells, runes, salt, crystals, and invoking things like Hecate.
The only draw back that I had was that there seemed to be parts of the book where the two main characters repeated conversations in regards to learning about each other. So it left me feeling a bit confused because they had already had that conversation and then here they were having it again as if the first one never happened. There was also some minor spelling mistakes but those didn't really matter too me as much as the other thing did.

I read these specifically for the smut and fact that I dont think anything happens in real life like that but in any case they are still very interesting reads and I enjoy them regardless.

I tandem read both Powerful and Powerless and I feel like that is the correct way too read them as it brings so much more depth and emotion to the series than reading one then the other.
First I will start off with Powerful, I absolutely love how bright Adena is and just how absolutely full of life she is as a person. No matter what happens she never stops talking or smiling and I think without her Paedyn would be worse off than she was as you can tell they mean so much too each other.
Now when it comes too Adena and Makoto you can tell there is some tension there from the start and yes he intended too use her but her personality and just being herself wore him down and I believe she was who he needed in her life.
The ending of Powerful absolutely wrecked me like I will one hundred percent admit that the ending of the final Purging Trial absolutely devastated me because Adena didn't deserve that fate, no one does and while i'm glad that her death was avenged by Pae, it didn't erase the fact that it was senseless and unnecessary.

Ce'anna had a perfectly good husband who did everything for her and loved her more than anything but that just wasn't enough for her and while she did choose her boyfriend in the end she still loved her ex-husband. So I mean at least she ended up with one of them, and while her friends had a right too be pissed the one's man was also complacent in cheating, it takes two people too make that bed.

I needed this book for my "June" Challenge and a book beginning with N but it was interesting, I wasn't expecting the turn but I do love that tropes so I kept reading. I also feel like it could have been another tropes with the maxi madi which could have been a little bit mean. But over all I enjoyed this short yet spicy read.

This was a good little quick read, if you do reading challenges and bingo boards and need too fill in the spots then books like these greatly help. I love the idea about how werewolves are created in this book, instead of the typical born a were or turned into one via a bite, scratch, or in some cases their venom this one has a more spicy approach to it and while using protection does minimize risks much like everything else it's not fool proof.
I'm curious too see how Piper keeps up her charade with not only Kale but also Hudson. I just feel like this could have been done in one large book instead of three separate parts.

As the various perspectives of the book are offered, you discover a very seamless blend of survival, violence, paranoid and tension that causes people to start unraveling under the pressure. I liked that the book not being focused on just one perspective allows you to see how different people handle the same nightmare adds a lot of depth. The cult side of things also brings in an extra level of chaos, especially once fear and desperation really started taking over. Overall, it was intense, fast moving, and full of "end-of-the-world panic" that keeps you wanting to know what happens next. What makes this book stand out is how it builds tension, starting as a slow burn with character development and then exploding into action when the “cleanse” begins. The mix of flawed, relatable characters and high-stakes horror keeps things engaging, and the shifting perspectives add depth to the story. However, I noticed a few areas that could be improved. I felt like the pacing became rushed in certain sections, especially during key moments where I wanted more buildup and detail. Some of the characters also felt underdeveloped, and I wished I had gotten more insight into their motivations and backgrounds to feel more connected to them. Additionally, a few transitions between scenes felt abrupt, which made parts of the story slightly harder to follow.

I really love how this one separates love and duty to your crown and your people, and how sometimes doing what is right can be the hardest thing too do.
I absolutely loved how Marina went too Chantilly for her legs all so she could visit Laani the girl who looked out at the sea as if she were waiting for something.
The first time Laani and Marina meet you get a feel for the tension between the two of them and you can tell how much Marina cares for Laani especially when she cleans her wounds and then offers her a ride on her back so that she can return to her kingdom.
From the start I didn't like the prince, he seemed too arrogant and quick too blame someone else when it was him that was the true enemy to the mermaids and their dilemma. And when he makes a show by inviting other princesses and practically parading them around? Yeah I'm glad he ended the way he did he absolutely deserved it.
I absolutely loved the lessons Marina teaches Laani so that she can use them on the Prince to secure his favour and marry him thus saving her kingdom. I have never wanted to be a student more than in those moments because they were not only beautifully written but the spice was definitely giving.
The only reason I didn't do all out five-star rating was because there was some spelling errors and parts of the books that didn't have the correct sentence format, mainly when Marina and Laani would talk too each other often times the sentence lacked proper quotation marks so sometimes it was a bit confusing too determine if the characters were talking too each other.
