I really don't like reading nonfiction... (#sorrynotsorry). But since the theme of the next book club is nonfiction, I decided to read this book, which has been sitting on my shelf for a long time (and it was a gift from my fiancé). Although I don't really like this genre (so much so that I can say I'm not loving this book), I really appreciate learning about the stories of women, like in this case, forgotten women who were fundamental to our history. Incredibly intelligent Black women who simply wanted dignity and to be able to help their nation with their skills, yet they only encountered obstacles and indignity along the way, as if skin color were a choice and a disease.

I've seen the movie and loved it.

Li, chorei, amei.

I read this book when it first came out and rushed through it, eager to see where the story would go. Now I realize I don’t remember much of it. This time, I opted for the graphic audio and just finished part 1 of 2. At the moment, the book feels so hopeless (not just in the story itself, but also in the way it’s told). I’m not sure if I’ll continue with part 2 anytime soon.
