This book really messed me up. I'm sad, I'm angry, I'm conflicted. Time to go curl up in a ball and cry

I am not marking this post as containing a spoiler, because it speaks on U.S. news which is readily available. But otherwise, consider this a spoiler warning.
The paragraph about Trump giving rights of tribal lands to uranium companies just...floored me. I had to go do some research, so I spent the last half hour reading various news articles and I just...I dunno, never heard of that happening back in 2019? Probably because of the pandemic??? But I guess similar stuff is happening NOW, as recent as last month, so if you have feelings about it as I do, let's support Indigenous communities.
Always happy to receive feedback or if you have other knowledge to add to this, please share!! but know that I will absolutely not be getting into political arguments on PB. This is a safe space ☺️

"In a gift economy, wealth is understood as having enough to share, and the practice for dealing with abundance is to give it away."
As I'm reading this while on my way to a Filipino party, I'm reminded and am thankful for how this mindset is deeply rooted in our culture. Typically in our celebrations and parties, food is incredibly important and abundant. When there are outdoor parties that spill over to the streets, neighbours are invited to share in food and celebration. It's common for neighbour kids, and sometimes adults, to drop by or wander around in hopes of hearing the magical words, "kain tayo" or "let's eat". Towards the end, whatever food is leftover is usually shared, and hosts will either pack the food to give away or usher their guests to pack them on their own to bring home. Aside from food, these gifts also show up in different ways, like a whole day of free rides from a proud jeepney driver dad whose son passed his bar exams.
A Filipino's first instinct when celebrating, is to share the happiness and joy that's overflowing.
