Literally have only read the prologue so far š just came here to say that the title caught my eye. When I saw it, I immediately thought about The Great Gatsby and whatdoyaknow it starts with a Gatsby quote! I feel validated. That is all, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk-post

I am not usually a sci-fi fan, but a friend of mine recommended it so I figured, why not? Besides, I got the kindle book cheap! Through sheer luck, I was able to get the audiobook which was AMAZING. Highly recommend the audiobook. I love the characters, but I did take them down by half a star just because at times they can seem a tad flat. I don't mind that because this is a singularily focused story and we are really only focused on one or two characters, really. Took it down half a star for the ending. I LOVED the ending. But, it wasn't...dynamic? Nuanced? Anyway, I generally had a great time with this and will likely read again in a few years

Want to hit your word counts while a small kitty cheers you on by playing imaginary percussion instruments in the corner of your screen every time you type? Here's Bongo Cat, a free game.
Its gammifying typing / clicking but I think its actually quite useful. A dev friend introduced it to me and its become a surprisingly good tool for focus sessions. You can earn customisations for your cat just by typing and clicking for set amounts of time and when applied to work/study, it can be really motivating.
I'm currently in a multiplayer lobby and have slammed out a number of job applications thanks to my kitty cheerleader, urged on by seeing the other cats ('humans') furiously drumming away.
Note: I am NOT sponsored by these Game developers nor affiliated with them in any way, I've just found this has some cute, useful applications and immediately thought of some of the people in this community š I can remove this if its against any rules we have!

Min Jin Lee may sacrifice a great deal in pursuit of this rich view of Korea in the early to mid 1900s, but I think they stand to gain a great deal as well.
Hardly an electric or even, really, emotional readā at least to this pointā Pachinko is angling for the truth of life at this given moment in time. Not much more, and certainly nothing less. In that singular pursuit it produces plenty of intrigue and insight, don't be mistaken. Lee's prose keeps a clinical distance from its subjects, which presents a very unique perspective on the necessity of daily life throughout the work.
I wouldn't hasten to call it technical, but I would say it leans closer to that than emotional. Overall a good, surprisingly easy, read that opens your eyes from an impressively educational point of view.

I read this back in January this year and loved it, but as time has gone by and I have given it more space to think on, my opinions are changing a bit. I am also finding that happens with a lot of books I read. That happen with anyone else?

For everyone who saw my post to alert about the audiobook being back on Spotify, my deepest apologies. It appears I jumped to conclusions. It is back...for me. I was in the middle of it when it was taken down, and randomly it came back with a notice about "not leaving you on a cliffhanger." So, anyone in a similar situation as me may have gotten temporary access again, but that is it. Apologies, apologies š

Okay, I'm confused. Book club is today, so even though I had hoped to read this with my eyeballs instead of listen to the audiobook, I don't have much choice. Except I think I do have a choice, and I really want to DNF this because I am not following the mystery. There are too many names and too much time has gone by and I don't understand all the relationships. I'm not understanding literally the bare bones basics of why there are any motives?? I need a spark notes right now šš«
