Overall, I really liked the book. Good pace, I read it in around 5 hours and at no moment feel the temptation to put the book down. The only thing that sometimes was tedious was how often we changed POVs and, some characters just werent as interesting as others. Sorry Tommy.
A great story for those who feel a vampire story should make the reader uncomfortable.

I first read this book years ago, and it created in my a deep love for found footage/lost media stories, and while I have read some very good ones since then, this is still my favorite. I have now re-read it and it was even better than I remembered.
First of all, the two main stories, the one about the Navidsons/The House and the one about how Johnny is consumed by this essay about a none existent footage. The fact that they are constantly interrupting each other would probably be frustrating if I had not been so invested in both. I was always wanting to know what happened next in the parallel story, but I enjoyed the one I was readying.
Then the fact that we had this other two agents helping us see this stories: Zampano, who is the only vehicle we have to The Navidson Records, and Ed, who is the least intrusive editor ever and yet his few apparitions here and there also tell us about Johnny's mental state, at least in the degree to which it affected his work.
And of course, the very experimental corner. The fact that it goes crazy when we are following the exploration of the house, it really puts you in this altered state of mind in a way words alone cannot do. The truth is that while the story is good, it can only achieve the peak of the emotional aspects with the format in some way echoing what is happening to the characters.
The book is ambitious but it achieves everything it sets out to do, I cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking for a more unconventional horror book.

So Goodreads posted a blog post last month called "Personality Picks: Book Recommendations for (Nearly) Every Type of Reader" and I thought it was a cute idea except most of their recs suck (they chose a lot of really popular ones) and I'd rather hear from the PB community šI'll list the categories they used below. Give me recs for as many as you're able to!

How do you guys use the TBR vs Interested options to mark books? As of now, I am using them a bit interchangeably, but more often than not I just don“t use the Interested option. I was wondering if maybe someone had a good system that uses both as distinctly separated options?

tbh I'm totally new to the gothic fiction genre, have never thought of reading it ever in my life - until recently, when I read wuthering heights for the readalong. although I disliked the characters, I found myself very much enjoying the gothic aesthetics of the windy and rainy moors. it has now awakened in me an interest and I would like to explore more gothic fiction, but I much prefer reading queer novels in general compared to other novels. I know of Interview With The Vampire and Carmilla, but that's about it. so all this is to say, does anyone have queer gothic romance recs / queer gothic fiction recs? š„¹ (other than IWTV and Carmilla which I already have my eye on!)
