Hello all~ I just wanted to ask if anyone had some romance books to recommend. The most recent reads I enjoyed were from the Gods of the Game series by Ana Huang, Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldtree (not romance focused but super cozy and I love it), and Phantasma by Kaylie Smith. Doesn't have to be reads that are similar, I am curious about expanding my reading but not sure where to start. Thank you!

I forgot how disorienting it is in this series when the characters use modern dialogue but the world is clearly set in the Victorian / Edwardian era - like, Genevieve exits a carriage in a corset and goes “are you fucking kidding me?” 😂

I’ve been a fan of Ana Huang and started from Twisted to Kings of Sin before picking up the Gods of the Game… and I can honestly say I utterly love the interpersonal relationship development between the MMC and FMC for the Defender! The way they just grow together as individuals as their relationship gets deeper? Chef’s kiss. I am a sucker for certain tropes as much as the next person, but to have actual substance drive the story forward and not just a story built around just having the trope there? Such a treat~

I’ll be honest, this book was what made me want give the rest of Ana Huang’s books a chance. I love her writing style because you get the feel of being in the character’s head and thoughts without being explicitly told “she thought to herself” and the dialogue felt like a natural exchange. I ain’t going to say whether the scenario and context of their relationship is realistic, as I don’t know anyone with something like it, but I do believe they have realistic responses to the situation they were forced into.
Definitely enjoyed the book immensely. I listened to it as an audiobook the first time but I’m rereading it via paperback now and let’s say I’m having fun.

I will preface that I do enjoy a spicy monster romance but… the protagonist and writing style weren’t quite my cup of tea, and I did struggle to get through it at times. Bless Orpheus.
I did go through the audio book instead of reading the paperback, but often times I had to rewind because I was very confused with how the writing and scene progressed.
