The Guest Children is a slow, unsettling descent that quietly grows its teeth. The first half takes its time, lingering in unease and unanswered questions, but once the story begins to reveal whatâs really happening, it becomes gripping and emotionally heavy in the best way.
I loved the strange, secretive atmosphere of the lodge and the sense that everyone knew more than they were saying. The psychological elements were especially strong. Watching the main character get pulled deeper into his past, questioning whatâs real and what isnât, made the story feel intimate and haunting. The ambiguity surrounding the children kept me constantly guessing, and the twists in the second half were handled thoughtfully and with restraint.
What really elevated this book for me was the ending. It doesnât go for an easy resolution, but instead chooses something quieter and more honest, acknowledging that survival and healing arenât the same thing. A somber, emotional read that lingers long after itâs over.

We Live Here Now has a wonderfully eerie premise, and I loved how it played with the idea of a haunting that feels familiar but not quite predictable. Thereâs an unsettling strangeness to the house, and the slow realization that something is deeply wrong kept me interested, especially as unexpected connections in the town began to surface.
Where the book faltered for me was in its pacing. The story often drifted into repetition, circling the same emotional beats without moving the tension forward. The supernatural elements were intriguing, the psychological unraveling was done well, and a reveal near the end genuinely surprised me.
Still, I enjoyed the blend of domestic suspense and uncanny horror, and the way both characters gradually slip into the houseâs influence. It wasnât a bad read just one that didnât fully reach the potential of its brilliant concept.

I sure hope we get some plot soon... also why is she so obsessed with her ex. From the little we saw and heard about him, he is truly terrible with no redeeming qualities. Like girl, know your worth.

Fun idea but mixed execution.
The Devil She Knows had flashes of charm, especially through Daphne, the chaotic demon who easily became the most compelling part of the story. Her tragic past, sharp humor, and messy warmth gave the book the emotional weight I wanted more of.
But Samantha didnât work for me as a main character. Her fixation on her ex took up so much of the story that it overshadowed the fun, darker elements I was hoping for. The romance felt rushed, more instant attachment than genuine chemistry, and never had the depth to make their connection believable.
Still, the wish gone wrong moments were entertaining, and the Lucifer scene at the end was genuinely delightful. Overall, this was a light, quick read with a great concept. Just not quite the emotional or romantic depth I look for.

Continuing the book for Daphne and the choas she brings! Sam gave me the ick and she's quite unlikable. Halfway through this book and I dont feel any chemistry between these two. So not sure how I will feel once that happens.
