Where do I even start? This book is... something I should have read sooner and at the same time never touched in my life. It's eerie how some ideas are still relevant to this day and I'm afraid that in the future we might have our own Big Brother. Tho, now that I think about it, we have our own version of Big Brother, and I'll sound like a a caricature but 'it's those damned phones'. Everyone has a camera on hand, and even if no one is filming you, you feel like you have to act a certain way because if you act not how you suppose to, you have phone cameras pointed at you and in a few minutes you'll find yourself on TikTok or Instagram. Of course, the example is not as extreme as in the book, but the idea still remains the same. Not to mention the whole "Chat Control" thing that EU tries to pass... After reading 1984 it makes me shudder... But despite the fact that the book felt like a cold shower, I'm glad I read it. The plot was interesting, and it was relatively easy to read. Winston was a bit too much of a annoying wimp in certain points in the story, and Julia was and still is a bit of a mystery to me. There is also one chapter in the book that should have been cut in half. The first half of it I was like 'yeah, that's so true,' but the second half was a hassle to finish. I kept telling myself to not fall asleep and read, even if it felt redundant. Glad I did, because the Part Three was something I didn't expect and the plot twist after plot twist was so well done, I finished it like a cake that is so damn good, but it makes you doubt if the cake wasn't poisoned.
