A cute, cozy Christmas story that felt like you were reading a Hallmark movie. You can't help but room for the various characters even though the ending is very predictable. This story is perfect for when you're in the mood for a light read that will get you in your feels.

I did have to take a bit of a break for a few days and come back to it in the middle as I did find the first half was filled with unnecessary and repetitive cliche phrases. Considering the MMC is a tough bull rider, some of the phrases were unbelievable enough to picture that it did take me out of the story for that pause. It did get a lot better for the second half for me though, and ended on an adorable note!

ARC review - thanks to NetGalley and Janet Dailey

  • Imposter syndrome??

Does anyone else feel like their opinions on books are less valid/relevant because they don't have as many critique points or don't pick up on as many things? Because I'm very much a vibes gal and while I sometimes notice that a certain writing style or excessive use of stylistic devices is bothering me, or that I dislike the main character or, more often, like the atmosphere an author creates, I usually like most books I read for what they make me feel, if they do make me feel something which is like 90% of books. And while I love some books a lot more than others, I usually can't really tell why, at least not without thinking about it. Like I usually don't pick up on style elements while reading, I just like it. And I sometimes feel like that makes my opinions less valid because oftentimes I like a book and then I read people's reviews where they point out a bunch of things that bothered them or how they hate the way a certain topic is explored, and then I have to rethink my entire opinion on the book 😭😅 A good example could be "A Little Life," I read it because of the hype obviously and I knew it to be a tearjerker, and I sobbed the whole time, I felt so much with all the characters and it really broke me, and then I read a lot of reviews that tore the book apart, saying how it's just misery p*rn and how it's a terrible story and so illogical and far fetched, and that also rang true. And that changed my mind about the whole book.

  • Nostalgic read

Hi, I started volunteering in my local library and while I was organising books I thought of all the series I started as a kid but never finished. Example: as a kid I read Geronimo Stilton a lot, but one of the books I read on repeat was the first of "The Kingdom of Fantasy" and now there are like 12 journeys, 6 spin off and a related series with Thea Stilton. So I was thinking how many people wants to finish the series who they loved to read as a child but are too scared too finally finish them because of nostalgia. What are these series for you and why can't or how did you finish them?

True love takes many forms. As one of the few survivors of her generation, Lark wants to live a quiet, peaceful life. All she needs is a tolerable husband. On her 24th birthday, Lark offends the local faerie lord, the shapeshifter Tamlin, who punishes her with a rose rooted in her flesh. In her efforts to convince Tamlin to undo his handiwork, Lark visits the forest daily and discovers the breathtaking and terrifying wonders of his realm. Despite her pragmatic nature tugging her toward a mortal huntsman, Lark falls for Tamlin. After a near-fatal accident exposes Tamlin’s cruel deception, Lark moves to the capital to accept a marriage of convenience. Yet when she learns of Tamlin’s capture, Lark must choose whether to secure her future or risk it all to save the love of her life from his cannibal ex. -- MY THORNS FOR YOUR ROSES is a "Tam Lin" retelling written in the spirit of the Scottish faerie tale and folksong - for readers who enjoyed the fae in Heather Fawcett's EMILY WILDE series, retellings like Naomi Novik's SPINNING SILVER, and the complicated family dynamics of Kell Woods' AFTER THE FOREST and UPON A STARLIT TIDE. • How many books do you have in progress at the same time?

I was trying to update my status on a few books and realized I usually have more than one book going at the same time. Whereas before I used to be a person who could only have 1 going at a time.

How many books do you have going at the same time?

    Mine:

    1. Physical book, or Kobo - my main read. The one I'll sit down with at home when I have free time.

    2. Audiobook (at work) - I have a really hard time getting into audiobooks but I'm experimenting with a few different styles, narrators, etc to find what I like.

    3. Phone, Kindle app - my ARCs on NetGalley, or Amazon First Reads on the Kindle app. I'm trying to get better at only requesting books I'm very interested in, rather than everything and anything that catches my eye. And I'm trying to read my first reads in the same month. So now once I'm caught up, this third book slot is out of rotation.
