So fun to read! I liked that it is set in the 90s, like all the classic rom-com movies. Definitely had a good atmosphere! I also enjoyed that the two MCs had friends and family that were important to the plot and who we cared about. Would recommend as an easy romance book.

Getting held up on the fact that the author seems to think the beginning of September is going to have lovely foliage. You're not going to have "hills of autumn gold and red" for another handful of weeks lol. Maybe ... climate change since 1997?

A good read! I appreciate when the writing style doesn't take me out of the story to go- ...What? I read most of this while sick at home, and I thought the plot and pacing was pretty good. One of the main things that I thought was strange was that the "decades-old curse" was only like 20 years ago lol.

Pretty okay read. Fun atmosphere for fall, but I didn't understand really anything about the magic in the story lol

I do not understand how the magic works in this universe. Can they just do anything? What's preventing witches from just making literally anything go their way?

Really atmospheric book and perfect for October. I liked how the magic was portrayed, and how it tied into discussions about religion. One of the main themes is about what's Right vs. Wrong, and how that's different for everyone. You could really feel how it was possible for Puritans to be overcome by righteousness to do morally wrong things in the name of God. The ending was a bit intense for me, but the book generally had a good level of discomfort to keep you on your toes.

Tbh I wish more people were critical of this book, the casual ableism, treatment of the indigenous characters, the trauma p*rn the MC goes through just to set up the “good for her” end, etc, all were distracting from an interesting story that needed some nuance.
Of course, it was written by a man and it shows but the lack of critical response is mind blowing. I see this book recommended so often but rarely see any of this mentioned. Like, it’s totally possible to love this book despite its flaws but these baring red flags have been seemingly glossed over or not noticed, which concerns me.
P.S. I read this because, after seeing it rec’d so much on TikTok, I saw it in a “feminine rage” Reddit thread. Oh well.
