Guys, it lost me. I am currently feeling so desengaged now. I kind of know why it lost me, but I am still surprised it was enough to knock me out of the book. I was devouring this but now I feel soo meh about it. I will finish it since I have around 40 pages left. I was hoping to have a better experience

Not my first read of the book, when I first read it I was a sleep deprived teenager so I can say that this time I was able to actually make the most out of it.
Howl's moving castle as a book relies in it's slow development and carefully built plot to capture even those who came from the adaptation. The amount of minor details woven into the story surprised me on my first read and did not fail to charm me now. Things as side characters that in any other book you might think one doesn't need to pay attention to coming back to serve a great purpose and discreet dialog delivering a eye opening information.
I admit the beginning of the book may seem bit slow, but I'd rater blame it on the fact the movie is so famous I was expecting to love the source as soon as I read the first page, when in reality this book deserves to be enjoyed as it's own thing. Sure, there are a lot of similarities such as: the constant feeling that you are not being told everything, the natural way magic is portrayed in everyday life and the overall sense of calm even when the situation is chaotic.
But on the other hand, the world is shown to be way more vast here, the character are so much fuller and complete, Sophie is so much better as a protagonist. She has personality, agency, humor and she finally feels like someone that exist in a context instead of a cut out character floating as the story goes. And I am glad that everybody received the same treatment, the whole cast has a certain life to them and a reason to be there. I did not notice I missed these things until I read the book.
Some people tend to dislike the book because it does not have a strong romance characteristic to it and I understand, but I don't think this is a story about romance, I personally see this more like a self discovery journey.
Safe to say it still one of my favorite books.
