MindlessMoose commented on seema's review of Don't Let the Forest In
An absolutely beautiful and haunting story about teenagers, forests, and the monsters in both.
First and foremost, the writing is extremely visceral, it gets under your skin and just crawls. Every word was chosen with so much intention and the imagery was absolutely stunning (with illustrations that made my jaw drop). To get a sense of the atmosphere, think: moths, rot, sharp teeth, things that go bump in the night, anxiety, angst, and desperation. Personally, it's not a book I'd recommend reading at night.
I can't say too much about the plot or characters while keeping it spoiler free, but I think both were done very well. My mind was racing with theories and questions from start to end, and I felt totally absorbed sinking into each and every detail to try to piece it all together. I felt like the teenage characters were written very well (read: I, an adult, was super frustrated they were acting exactly like dumb teenagers), I loved the queer rep, and in my opinion the only noteworthy issue was really that adults who could influence the story were very conveniently left out of sight and out of mind, which is quite a liberty to take. Nonetheless this is a book I'll probably be thinking about for a long while to come.

I just finished reading First Time Caller by B.K. Boriston because it's giving Sleepless in Seattle vibes, I want to read more romance books that give 90-00s romcoms, please do recommend some books! Thank you in advance 🫶🏻

I'd love to have a way to look at what the upcoming releases are for the month and of course add them to my neverending tbr or interested list.
At the moment I'm using other book socials to find the new books and then coming here to tbr them. It'd be so handy if I could do that all in one place and drop the other sites for good.
If there is already a way to do this then please ignore me!
Thanks 🙏 🖤

I'm asking these books kindly, as a personal favour, to please stop calling me out all the time.

Tl;dr: dislike my kindle, love my kobo libra colour. What's your favorite ebook reader?
As a 30+ year long reader, I have read many, many physical books (I still buy them 👀), but in the past 5 or so years, I've gone ~50% digital, and I have tried various ebook readers.
I've had a Kindle for a few years and I like a lot of the exclusive authors/books....lots of good indie smut hehe. That's about it tbh 😂 If you sideload your non-amazon books (I have over 2k! 🫣) it's a nightmare to deal with. You have to change the format, can't organize your books on shelves or collections (not even using Calibre!!), the covers get messed up/go missing, and you couldn't update good reads (don't use it anymore so a moot point). Not to mention the fact that they can remove "your" books at anytime! I had a whole series I spent a lot of money on just dissappear with no recompense, no explanation... Just poof!
After that fiasco, I got a Kobo ebook reader last November and I love it 😍 it fixed everything I didn't like about my kindle, and then some. I can freely organize my sideloaded books into series and collections, I can get all the same functionality as native Kobo books, and Calibre is actually useful for beyond just uploading books! Oh, and NO ADS!! There's also detailed reading stats (per book and overall), seamless Overdrive integration (for library books), and (on the libra colour) physical buttons! And they haven't taken any of the books I've bought from them, even though a series I bought was removed from their listings 👏🏾
I still have my kindle (can't get books I bought off it because they use proprietary formats and wizardry that prevents you from doing so 😞), but I exclusively use my libra colour and do not regret switching over
gets off soapbox 📦

Do u have any reading habits you’ve picked up that u regret not doing sooner? For me it’s reading 2 books at once. I used to only read 1 book at a time and whenever I’d get bored of the book I’d just stop reading for the day. But now that I have more than one to chose from I’m spreading way more time reading (I went from reading 45 min max a day to now reading for two hours a day). Another habit is allowing myself to DNF books. I can’t count the amount of slumps I’ve been put in bc I forced myself to finish a book I hated!!
