heya boundlings! š just a random discussion that popped up to mind!
what type of a reader are you? what have made you stuck to this reading habit?
have you tried the other ways? how did it make you feel? (ie. did you become a convert or hated it?)
personally, i've been reading on my e-reader for a long time and recently incorporated audiobooks (immersive reading) because just listening to the audiobooks distracts me quite a lot.
though i've been seeing spotify playlists for different book series but im so stuck with the audiobooks that i can't abandon them! šš¤£

I'm coming down off of just finishing this book and it's literally everything I probably could have wanted in a book so this review will reflect that, oops! The Serpent and the Wolf is such a standout debut like it genuinely feels like something fresh in a genre that can start to blur together. It leans fully into political fantasy, with layered alliances, trade routes, and shifting power that make the world feel incredibly fleshed out and rich, but it never loses its emotional core. The pacing is more on the slower side, and it works so well for it. The tension is always there, just beneath the surface, building with every conversation and decision.
Vaasa is an incredible main character. She's just so genuinely fierce, smart, resourceful, but still guarded. She goes through such a big journey about power and survival, but also about learning to trust, to let people in, and to redefine what strength actually looks like. And thatās where the girlhood and found family elements really shine. The women in this story are written with so much care. It's not just Vaasa, theyāre literally all written with such strong traits and in intentional ways.. their support of each other feels natural and deeply genuine. Itās not forced or over-explained, it just is! They're owning everything about themselves. Forget the men!
The romance is a slow burn done right, there's all these little subtle and tense shared moments and mutual understanding rather than grand gestures. It never overshadows the story, but instead weaves into it, adding another layer to the stakes. The dynamic between Vaasa and Reid is especially compelling, balancing sharp banter with underlying respect and vulnerability. It's definitely in the background, I would say (at least this first book) leans more fantasy with a romantic sub-plot.
The writing itself is immersive and purposeful, pulling you into a world of political intrigue, hidden motives, and power plays. The twists arenāt obvious, the emotions land, and by the time everything comes together, it feels both surprising and completely earned. Ugh, I genuinely had such a great time. Yet another book that reminds me why I love reading.
