To be honest, I was afraid of being completely lost and struggling to keep up when I started this book, but my fears were unfounded. The setup is relatively simple, yet the story and the conflicts were really interesting to follow, and I can’t wait for the copies of the second and third books in the series I ordered to arrive. As for the characters, I love hating the villainous ones, and after reading some reviews about Gormflaith, one of the two protagonists in this book, I was prepared to spend my time cursing her, albeit with pleasure. The thing is, in the end, I found myself actually liking her. I’m under no illusions, she’s horrible, but in a way that makes me look forward to seeing her become more and more despicable as the story goes on. Concerning Fódla, the other main character, she was frustrating at times, but in a way that made sense given her character, and it made her development throughout the story all the more enjoyable for me.
