Man this book is fucking me up. I swear, every couple of pages my eyes start watering. I really see myself in Bitter. I havent experienced half of what she did but her anxiety around protests really hit me. I feel the exact same way and i feel like im not doing enough if I dont participate in protests.
The way the characters treat her is so beautiful and heartwarming.

This is a tiny crashout.
Ive been trying to dip my toes in audio books, for no particular reason. I figured libby would be the best option for free audio books, because i heard so many good things about it from pagebound. So i looked up a few books that I wanted to read. Even though my library has a physical copy libby doesn't seem to have the audio version.
No harm no faul. Today, I went there and decided im going to see if I can listen to a non fiction gasp. Really new for me because I tend to avoid those books like the plague.
I found out that libby has this feature where you can pick topics and it'll give you a book. I was really intrigued because the options there sounded so good! I also figured that since libby doesn't have the books I want to read, why not let libby choose for me.
TELL ME WHYYY, LIBBY IS RECOMMENDING ME BOOKS IT DOESNT HAVE?!? THESE BOOKS HAVE IGNITED AN URGE IN ME TO READ NON FICTION AND LIBBY DOESNT HAVE THOSE?!?! LIBBY DOESNT HAVE SHIT! AND THAT STOOPID "Notify me 🛎" BUTTON KEEPS SHOWING UP IN EVERY BOOK I CLICK ON
deep breath AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Sorry guys, I really had to let that out.

I really really enjoyed this book. It was so amazing!
I thought the construction of the story was amazing. We first understand who Kaikeyi is and where she stands in society. What she thinks of that and how her experiences affect the choices she makes. It explained every important event in Kaikeyis life. Which in turn explained every choice she made.
The characters and their relationships felt real. The dialog, how they teased each other felt natural and not forced. The author showed how well the charcters knew each other without saying it. The relationships are probably my favorite part about the book.
I thought the writing was extremely immersive. Things were explained in a way where I could picture them quite clearly. This is coming from someone who doesnt imagine things very detailed. I would forget my surroundings at times. The relationships also added to that feeling
A cool detail that I loved was, when something happened, the author would write how society interpreted it. Kaikeyi would then explain why society's opinions weren't accurate. It really felt like a story being retold. I was extremely interested after reading the authors note. How her grandmother and mother would argue which version is the true one. I was really excited to find out which way the author would go. Those moments in the story was foreshadowing which direction it would go.
