When comparing this to the Decagon House it's definitely slower and easier to figure out, it's also harder to find a character that you might not suspect. Though oddly there are few red herrings and I had managed to theorize the main part of the mystery before the half way point.

I do plan to continue though because I love how utterly persistent Shimada is and I appreciate that most of what occurs is possible to pick up on.

  • Thick bookmarks

This is something that has bothered me since I was a kid, but I feel like I'm noticing it more and more: bookmarks made out of wood, leather, quilted fabric, crochet, 3D printed etc. all 2mm or more thick. Do people actually use these? If so, how/why?

I've always felt like they would mess up my books, and even if not, the extra bulk would drive me bonkers. I can't see myself ever using anything thicker than cardstock. I've always wondered who's making/using these. I've only ever gotten them as gifts from people who don't read lol

  • Accidental Quest Fullfilment?

I'm sure there are quests out there that you try to complete or read more in because you're interested in the quest itself (or the badge). But I'm curious if you guys have quests you accidentally earn badges for. You're just out there reading books and oh that's on the quest list and suddenly you're 10 books deep into the quest without trying

for me it's the Every Villain is a Hero in Their Own Eyes, like sometimes books get added to it and oops i've read it XD or I read a book and suddenly my badge updates. If you asked me what kind of books I liked, I'd say horror, but if you asked PB it's apparently villains as heroes (˘∀˘)/(μ‿μ) ❤

  • how are we holding (our) space?

one of my friends is an undergrad in the lab I work is also a reader. she brought a hardcover copy of psycho with her to work and recently asked if I use bookmarks.

I use bookmarks if I'm reading a paperback or a hardcover that doesn't have a dust jacket; if my hardcover has a dust jacket, the inside flap is my bookmark.

she, on the other hand, dog ears her books.

so I ask you, the wider boundling community, how are we holding space in our books? are you like her and dog earing your books or are you like me and finding some other way to hold your place?

Moments in a book that feel like the author’s barely disguised fetish

What are moments in books that feel like they are juuust a little too oddly specific and detailed in a way that makes you slightly pause and go “… this gotta be a sex thing” even though on the surface it really isn’t?

title card reading: tonight’s episode: the writer’s barely disguised fetish

Not really just a kink that is supposed to be recognised as such but smth a bit more hidden. Maybe it even seems like the author themself didnt realise that was why they put it in

Common examples that fit this imo are the many, many romance authors who clearly have a patriarchy fetish + the many, many horror authors who have a fetish for having a woman being violated
