idk man I’m kind of not vibing with this right now. The story feels a lot more telling than showing and I’m bored 😭 it could be more my fault than the book’s because I’m in a depressive episode and struggling to find things interesting (and the only thing I seem to be good for rn is reading books but even then…) I’ll stick it out for now and see where we go ❤️

My heart hurts for Shingo 🥺 Bless him. It must be so frightening for him and also gut wrenching for his family too.

I read 8! it might not seem like a lot but i'm quite proud because 2 of them are over the 700 hundred pages witch is something that i didn't managed to do since i was about 14 probably, and the book i'm currently reading is also like 700 pages why do i do that to myself?.
The good thing is that i liked almost every book i read so far, for the second half of the year i would like to read more of my physical tbr and finish some of the books i have paused.
So far my favs have been the two bricks, Royal Assasin and Assasin's Quest by Robin hobb (and i'm loving East of eden witch im reading right now ) and my least favourite would be Lapvona (i'm sorry guys)
You're free to tell me about your half year wrap up if you want to! i would love to hear it from you!!

"I had only one ambition in my simply built life, and that was to be sure the Farrow curse would end with me. It was as good a place as any to end a story. I wasn’t the first Farrow, but I would be the last."
The Unmaking of June Farrow begins with the loss of her grandmother, Margaret as they have just laid her to rest. For generations, the Farrow family is burdened with a curse that they will 'descend into madness' or lose their marbles, so to speak. But not everything is as it seems. Even before her gran's death, June was starting to see things she shouldn't. She comes to the realisation that it's her time, that she is starting to show signs of heading the same way as the women before her. And there also lies a particular mystery she's never truly understood: her mother's disappearance. June is determined to finish the curse once and for all, but at what cost?
I went into this book not knowing much about it tbh and it's probably the best if you don't do! I had no idea what to expect tbh.
"Was I becoming someone else, or was I just finally becoming myself? I couldn’t tell."
I enjoyed the book for the most part but it is not without its own issues.
The characters are likeable and the premise intrigued me. My heartstrings were tugged at the start. June's close relationship with her grandmother and losing her made me think about my nan. They even shared a name which had me more intrigued and wkaldjsldgasdg. The writing flowed nicely, and it usually says a lot when I immediately finish a book within 2 days. I don't do that unless I am thoroughly invested.
I enjoyed the book. Really, I did. I understand why the book has mainly positive reviews. Unfortunately, for me, I feel like it fell a bit flat in a number of areas.
"I stared at them both, so exhausted that I could hardly muster the energy to speak. I’d been forced to trust them, but it was clear now they’d been looking out only for themselves. “You should have told me about this.”"
This quote pretty much sums it up for me. I feel like there would not be a plot if the characters did one simple thing: communicate. The pacing was also uneven. I went through a lot of times just rolling my eyes and wishing things would hurry up because nothing was happening. It became repetitive and exhausting in parts because June was trying to find answers and people just continued to withhold information from her. Time and time and time and time again she asks. And these people know. They just won't tell her until they have no other choice but to. And that's really infuriating tbh. If they had just communicated, then honestly the book would've been considerably shorter. Miscommunication is a biggggggggg pet peeve of mine, so when a whole overarching plot revolves around this simple thing, unfortunately for me it kinda left a sour taste in my mouth.
The book still leaves you with more questions. I felt really disappointed that we do not know exactly the reason why this family are cursed. Why this family specifically? Is there anyone else on the planet like them? Why? Why them? But you don't. Not really. And I have so many other questions revolving other characters and how certain things worked. I don't think the whole time travel element is explained properly. I'm someone who always says yes to anything revolving time travel, timelines, alternate universes, sign me up!!! It's my jam. And while trying to work out the logistics in my head takes some scrambling, I usually can somewhat get a basic understanding. Unfortunately, I feel like the more I try to think about the way the timelines worked in this book, it only leaves me feeling more and more confused. So honestly, I struggled with that and it just felt... not believable enough for me tbh and it broke the immersion a bit.
I just think that they could have done more with this, is all.
And don't even get me started about certain characters. I think Mason deserved better, personally.
