What's your weird/unhinge reading or bookish habits?
let me just preface that most of my friends' first impression of me are weird and a quiet one. They're wrong on the latter of course cause I was almost always reading when they'll first see me. Anyway, my weird bookish habit is when I take a break from reading a book, I'll read a book. That mostly will be reading children or novella like Roald Dahl's or RL Stine's Goosebumps books. When I'm really reading, I read up to 4 books simultaneously cause I take a break in between those books haha. And the break I mentioned is when I want to take a break from my 4 current reads

What’s your “ i don’t want to ever see this in my books”? For me I despise a miscommunication trope that’s written just to fill the plot when it’s a whole grown adult relationship. I also hate when the mmc gives the fmc a random cringy nickname. In fantasy I hate when books describe their fmc ( who apparently can take a whole kingdom down with her pinky finger) as someone with a body of a child like make it make sense?

I really love the “found family” dynamic at the inn. Even though most of them aren’t related, they show up for each other so naturally. It’s so endearing — the kind of neighborly warmth I wish existed more in real life.
And Sera… she’s so full of love. She tries so hard not to disappoint anyone and always looks at things with kindness. The line about her aunt’s foot — “It held you up all your life, even when it hurt.” — that was so beautiful. She finds strength and beauty in others so easily, yet struggles to offer herself the same grace.

Today's random question
What is something about books or reading that you think is misunderstood? This can be a genre, reading as a hobby, how books are discussed, it can be anything.
For me, it's the idea that reading romance is all about the smut, especially queer. For a lot of the romance I read, I skim or skip the smut entirely (it makes me uncomfortable). The reason I read mm romance? The differences in the way men have to be written. I like my romance driven by emotion; I've found the genre that serves that for me.

Hey! I am on the aro spectrum and I feel like compared to other sexualities it's not explored much in fiction. And if it is, it's always with a character who is aroace. I am not asexual though and it would be cool to read about someone who has sexual attraction but is aromantic or just not interested in romance at all. I don't need the character/book to explicitly say the character identifies as aromantic so feel free to recommend anything that comes to mind!

I like to keep track of what format I read a book in, and since PB doesn't have this feature I've been using emojis instead. I read primarily physical books, but I also listen to some, and I'm actually reading my first e-book in years atm lol. I use 🎧 for audiobooks, but I can't decide what to use for an e-book???

I like cookbooks, especially if they’re full of great photos and great cultural information. I have quite a few for Mexican cuisine, some books of ice cream recipes, an Icelandic cookbook, and a variety of others. A couple of my favorites are:
I just picked up a book of Malaysian street food recipes (new to me; looks amazing), and I’m working on a matter with counsel from Sri Lanka, who assures me their food is better than one of my favorites (Indian), so I’m going to ask her for some cookbook recommendations.
Do any of you have favorite or go-to cookbooks?

Last year I decided to finish a series from my childhood that I never finished back then. I think I read the series in like 7th grade or something. It was the shadow children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. And it has me thinking maybe I should do that with other series I don’t think I finished back then so I might do another one this year.
Anyway what are yalls favorite books or series from like age 7 to like 13 ish? I love love love nostalgia.
I liked the Guardians of Gahoole series, Because of Winn Dixie, The Tale of Desperaux, I definitely read a ton of the magic tree house books too. Also don’t ask why, but I think I checked out this thick ahh book from my public library about dog breeds like 3 summers in a row. I know way too much about dogs bc of that.
