What authors did you enjoy meeting the most? Have you met any whose books you haven't read, or even whose books you didn't like, but you still enjoyed meeting them?
Conversely, did any stand out to you in a bad way?
For me:
Fantasy/SF: P.C. Hodgell, Martha Wells, Harlan Ellison, George R R Martin, Maureen Johnson Non-Fantasy/SF: Yrsa Sigurưardóttir, Colm ToĆbin, Harlan Coben, Siri Hustvedt
These stick in my mind the most.
P.C. Hodgell did a reading and met and talked with fans afterward. She was great, quirky in all good ways, and very nice.
Yrsa is the first Icelandic author I ever read. I've met her twice and she's incredibly kind and generous with her time.
I mention Maureen Johnson because I heard a couple of talks by her, attended a reading, and spoke with her and I thought she was great (clever and funny) but Truly Devious rubbed me the wrong way at the end so I never continued with the series (I may still do it at some point).
Anyway, I haven't met tons of authors but these stand out to me. I haven't had any bad interactions with authors, thankfully.

Hi all, I have a request for some book recommendations for 4 of my previous students who will be graduating high school in a few weeks. I have given some guidelines and things I'm looking for along with some recommendations I've come up with so far.
Student 1 Fantasy, Magical Realism, Sci-fi, and/or Horror that is Adventurous and preferably by a black author.
Clockwork Boys by T Kingfisher, also listed A Sorceress Comes to Call, The Hollow Places, and Nettle & Bone Wild Seed and Dawn by Ocatbia Butler Jackal by Erin E Adams The Fifth Season and The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin Ring Shout by P Djeli Clark Spear by Nicola Griffith Out There Screaming by Jordan Peele
Student 2 Thriller, Crime, or LGBTQIA+ that is Dark and or Tense. Preference for Coming of Age. Would really like to find some asexual characters
Penance by Eliza Clark 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton When the Wolf Comes Home or Mary by Nat Cassidy Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones The Merciless by Danielle Vega
Student 3 Historical Fiction, Thriller, or Fantasy that is Adventurous. Preferably with a focus on Latin America, American West and Southwest or something that gives off Dark Souls video game vibes.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown No Country for Old Men and Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy Libra by Don DeLillo Deliverance by James Dickey Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann
Student 4 Looking for fiction that is Anti-Military/Military Industrial Complex
Have not had time today to research for this last student.
Thanks for any help any of yall lovely people can provide.
