I did a tandem (audiobook and ebook) read of this book. Jennette McCurdy is a wonderful writer and a very good narrator. She speaks pretty quickly, more quickly than narrators I am used to.
This is one of those incredible books that makes your stomach turn and you almost want to stop reading, but you can't put it down. It is a short book, but was so packed with details and plot that it feels longer than it is.
The writing is so clear, concise, and visceral. The voice of the main character/narrator is clear and defined and heartbreakingly realistic. Each scene is perfectly chosen and organized to best support every thought/feeling/change in Waldo throughout the story and it shows how talented McCurdy and her editors are. This is the kind of writing that makes me feel envious and hopeless as a writer.
Couldn't recommend it enough.

Audiobook is pretty good, same narrators as the others in the series: Iggy Toma and Alexander Candese.
I don't know how "forbidden" I consider a brother's best friend trope, but I'll let it slide, because I LOVE a brother's best friend trope. Especially when the friend is older(not too much). The characters are endearing and flawed and very career-drivenand I found some of the stakes a little higher in this book than in some others, which led to it's easy to read quality. Not my favorite book in the series so far, especially after how much I liked the previous, but it was still worth reading/listening.

i definitely fell victim to how overhyped this book is. i totally believe the books will get better but i do find this writing to be very juvenile is a way i wasn’t expecting. i feel like there’s too many hints or half-reveals for them to be a useful plot device.
that being said i am absolutely becoming more invested with every page so maybe none of those things matter haha

Today's question is....
Whats your opinion on DNFing a book? 🤔

Audiobook is good, although Miles' accent comes and goes, and it can get confusing about who is speaking a line when the voices sound so similar. Same narrators as the other books in the series: Iggy Toma and Alexander Candese.
This book was a laugh riot from the very start. I needed this to help me out of a book rut. First book in a while where I literally didn’t want to put it down. Also, the characters are very likable and Miles' relationship with his southern, religious family had me reflecting on my own precarious relationships with similar family members. These stories don't always hit so close to home, but this one did for me. If you are looking for a funny bi-awakening story, this one is perfect. Would recommend.
