This was the perfect palette cleanser for in between my fantasies. A cute small-town romance with a trope that came curiously close to home. Although the plot was predictable and I knew what the third-act breakup would cause, if I ever need another cute, no-brain story, I would definitely pick up another Laurie Gilmore.

4.25⭐️ The Book of Doors read very fast and easy. I loved the concept where books have a certain magical ability. I think Gareth Brown wrote a well-thought-out story where, looking back, even the smallest details in the beginning of the book made sense by the end. He wove the story together in a pretty tight knot. If you would like to read a standalone novel that hooks you from the very start and gives you a cozy reading experience, I would definitely recommend this masterpiece

Sword of Kaigen starts out as a lovely story about a family living on a secluded mountain, in a village that has a long-standing tradition of practicing martial arts and creating Ice Spears. But then, suddenly, M.L. Wang decides to tear your heart out. It is a story about family dynamics, standing up for what you believe in, and friendship, all mixed with the brutal truths of war and politics. M.L. Wang created such a vivid world and compelling characters that I couldn’t stop reading. And now she’s left me hanging with questions that could be answered in a spin-off that might never come. Why?? Overall, a great book, but if you’re sensitive, have the tissues ready.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

A solid one by the author. Also the foreshadowing for a sequel was nice
