This is a romantasy that had LOTS of potential. I think the world-building is super interesting, but the plot and characterization fall a little flat. My biggest gripe is that there are so many obvious twists/reveals that it's absolutely excruciating to watch the FMC be too stupid to understand in a completely non-believable way. Like even in her own mind, she has to gaslight herself constantly into being stupider than she naturally seems to be? Also, why was the first 5% of the book allllll about the color of her dresses and then after she discovers pants she literally never talks about clothing colors again?

I'm not surprised that this book is popular, I think it is similar to Fourth Wing in quality and depth. If you liked Fourth Wing, you'll probably like this. In my opinion, it's not as good of a romantasy as Sarah J Maas or Carissa Broadbent writes. I probably won't read the sequels but I will eventually Google what happens because the world-building does interest me.
