I have desperately wanted to love this book, have picked it up time and time again over the past 15 years probably, since I was a teen… but honestly I am so bored every time 😩😩😩 I have always liked the tongue and cheek commentary and feminist perspective of the period though. I am giving it another go with the dramatised audio… LOL

Intersectional feminist texts that explore the complexity of feminism, centering voices from communities that are often the most excluded.

In another instance of how Kendall has been broadening my feminism, I bring "ageism." I think intersectionality comes easy to me because I'm a Mexican brown woman who grew up poor, with mental and physical illnesses, queer, so I fit a lot of marginalized sectors and thus I educate myself about them. But I have been screaming through the roof for women to think about other demographics they are not part of and I forgot a huge vulnerable sector because I'm not part of it. It was touched upon in the housing chapter, housing it's a whole beast that this never occurred to me:
“When we talk about housing and feminism, we must remember that it isn’t just the concern of the young woman eager to start her business or find a home for her family. It’s a concern for older women, for our elders who rely on the rhythms and the norms of their community to be able to age in place with dignity.”
Once again, I'm grateful for Kendal and this book, we all have so much to learn❤️🩹

More than 50 pages in and absolutely nothing. Not a crumb. Not a whisper of a hint to suggest what this poor dude in the prologue is in jail for. I'll keep reading, because if I love anything it's students at a snooty arty school in the 90s (or 00s), but stuff does start happening at some point besides people preparing for and going to class, right?

Ok, I didn't expect to like this as much but wow. To think I wouldn't have read it if I didn't have Pagebound 🥹 I fell in love with Isabel Canas' writing, but without the audiobook, I don't think I would've been able to enjoy as much and finish this quickly. The right book at the right time, perfect vibe Would lovee to read more books like these, the setting, the characters, the writing—as though I am in their world🤌
