When I first started this book, I thought I was going to be disappointed and I'm glad to share, I was so wrong 🙌🏾. This book starts out veryyyyy slow for me and there's a lot of things left unexplained, which kinda made it feel like there were plot holes. The further I got into the book, I realized that Heitz was purposely leaving things out to reveal later. That said, I found that even though I wasn't 100% sold in the beginning, I still wanted to know what happened and where the story went, so my interest was clearly peaked more than I initially thought.

There were~ a few things (no spoilers) that were loosely implied through context, but it didn't mess the plot up. It was more just me wanting the 1000% confirmation. Though, part of me wonders if that was on purpose too lol! There were some fun twists in this and unexpectedly a little romance but it's only lightly referenced here and there. My favorite characters were the twins Boïndil and Boëndal, they were SO funny. I loved seeing how Tungdil grew along the journey and really blossomed into the leader they needed. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the next book and can't help but wonder what's going to happen next. If you're looking for a fun epic fantasy, I'd definitely recommend this 🙌🏾!

  • Color E-reader / E-paper Thoughts~💭

Has anyone gotten a color e-reader/e-paper tablet? I already have some kindles, but I'd really like a color e-reader for manga, webtoons, etc that isn't locked into an ecosystem. I'm between the boox go color 7 gen 2, bigme 751c color e-paper, and the bigme b7 color e-paper 🤔.

I'm leaning more towards the e-paper tablets because of the high refresh rate, but I'd love to know what issues, if any, everyone has run in to if you have any of these.

    Thank you!

  • Reading Slump?

I recently have started to feel overwhelmed by reading. My TBR, Libby holds becoming ready when I am not, and being in a book club and not getting to solely focus on my preferred genre (I still love my book club.) Also, work has been busy, so that is definitely adding to my "meh" feeling about reading. How do you get out of a reading slump? Decompress? Have any advice? Any commentary is welcomed!

I kept seeing ads from the Broken Binding about the special editions they're dropping for this series and figured I would check it out. So far~ it's good enough to have me wondering how the story is going to play out but the characters and plot feel a bit flat to me.

I'm not really attached to any of the characters just yet and the Tungdil's journey isn't really that captivating, which I think is because the author seems to skip over context. One thing I loved about Cahill and Gwynne's series was that I felt like I was really following along with the characters as they went on their journey, but this feels more like I'm listening to someone tell me about the journey someone went on lol. It's not terrible, but I'm definitely missing something. When something tragic happened in FaTF for example, I FELT the characters despair and sorrow. In this, I feel like it's someone's distant cousin retelling the story of what they heard happened lollll it's a bit disappointing 😞

For instance, he consistently mentions names of deities, but you don't learn anything about them until about 20% of the way through the book. I have an inkling that the meat and potatoes of this book come after Tungdil meets other dwarves and gets his sea legs, so I'll reserve more judgment until then. Finger crossed things pick up 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾.

I’m really liking it so far! I haven’t seen the movies in a loooong time and I’ve never read the books. I do love fantasy though so I’m willing to give it a try!!
