Holy shit, this might be a new record for how quickly a book has made me cry! 🤯😭

As someone who LOVED Monsters of Verity, I picked this up super psyched as a part of my V. E. Schwab read-a-thon. Thus far whilst I find the story interesting; I am struggling to “get hooked”.

This was so good, im gutted that it's over! I've noticed there aren't many community recs for this book, but desperate to find more like this. Specifically, I'd love to find more books with:
morally grey characters who are each so completely themselves and who we come to know in such depth that we can't help but root for them
intense emotions and inner worlds which play a huge part in the story and how it unfolds
If anyone has any recommendations please let me know! Doesn't have to be the same sort of setting or empire-building themes, just has to have the same character depth and emotion - and bonus points for similar degrees of queerness 👌

Flawed, unique and messy characters who the author makes you understand so well that you root for them all despite their despicableness. A twisting, turning, unpredictable plot. And so much emotion, exquisitely and painfully real... Perfect 10/10, no notes.

What do y'all think about the multiple POVs? Honestly, I would've been happy with just Ouyang, Ma, and Zhu's. The introduction of the queen Zhang or whatever threw me off, unless she's going to be a major character from now on?
Like the first book, not loving how many POVs there are. I think it creates too much emotional distance.
