    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

I had high hopes for this one, but it was not for me. I ended up a DNF alittle over a quarter of the way through the book. The atmosphere and the plot are good and could really have been something good but the characters were unrealistic. The speed at which their so called relationship starts is insane. I read ALOT of dark romance and some of them are unrealistic timelines wise but even those have something leading up to the characters meeting. This was just meet the main characters and BAM they’re in some weird semi consensual situation and then the author just made it so strange with these phrases - comparing the mmc characters hand to a PESTLE , his 🍆 to a cobra and that could drill to the center of the earth. This quote “ I hear the distinct sound of her hot piss hitting the bowl” These comparisons are everywhere in this fairly short book and I could not do it.

If you’re an audiobook reader, please please go listen to the audiobook. The narrators are so good. Absolute perfection, all the feels. It was also really Eye-opening to learn a little bit about Octopuses and give me a newfound appreciation for the creature. It turns out they’re fascinating and intelligent and I’d love one for a friend.

It was hard to read and I loved it. Hear me out. I have heard from many people this book was advertised as a "Love" story or some sort of twisted romance novel. It is neither of those things. However I do think it's an amazing coming of age story. It's tragic, heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time and some of these experiences are based on true events of the authors life. Who really did date a man twice her age. Life isn't black and white. There are gray areas and Wavy is no stranger to them. She was raised by parents who didn't care what she did or where she went. She essentially raised her brother while her father hated her and cooked meth and her mother lived the life of an addict with a mental illness. Not every book is for every person, and sometimes we read beautiful stories that are not about beautiful things. This is one of those. I loved this book, it is probably one of my favorite books I have ever read. That is not because it talks about a man messing around sexually with a young teenage girl but because it is raw and real.
