I was gonna say that the kids aren't completely realistic to their ages, but then I realized I also am a queer who does not actually know how kids really are at certain ages, so who am I to say anything 🤷🏼♀️ also cancer sucks! 😡

I've been wanting to read the book for ages, but something always got in the way, even though I had this gut feeling I’d really enjoy it. Now that I’m finally diving into it for real, I caught myself getting a little paranoid, wondering if I’d actually like it or if I’d built it up too much. But honestly, I think I’ve just been subconsciously putting it off to make the experience last longer, not because I thought I wouldn’t like it. So far, not a ton has happened plot-wise, but the worldbuilding is super interesting. Hopefully it's another hook, line and sinker. 💁🏼♀️

It felt like a haiku in novella form (minus the rules). It somehow was very poetic, while the language stayed easy. Peaked interest, but left you wanting in a good way, like silence and certain things left unsaid.

The Guncle rules and Patrick's wisdom to the kids were very interesting and heartwarming. I was surprised so many times over the deepness and truthfulness of them. The letter to Joe was proper cry material. Still think the kids got too much credit for their age, but I'll check back once i hunted down a 9 and a 6 yrs old to talk to. I also wish the conversations weren't so disjointed so many times.

Science and girls are always a good idea! I enjoyed that nothing super twisty happened in the book, the plot went as you expected, yet i wouldn't say it was predictable. I knew where we are going but the road was interesting enough for me to keep wanting to tune back in to really get to know what's happening with Lilly. Special mention for the author's note I AM SO IMPRESSED! This book was a solid 4,5 for me, but the author's note did it for me. This is the dedication i want from my authors! Thank you, let's go lesbians, let's go!

Even though all the homophobia and xenophobia and 50's US, this book feels like such a comforting read. It portrays the feelings of discovery and secrets kept to the point. I am exited for Lily I hope things will turn out well for her and for Kath as well.

If it looks like a sparrow, flies like a sparrow, and cheeps like a sparrow, then it probably is a sparrow... The book was very poetically written, but it left me disappointed. I was hoping for a bit more, but I guess sometimes things are just what they are even if they are nicely wrapped in pretty prose.
