I did like this book. The story was interesting and it did get me in my feels quite a few times. The characters were well developed I think but I do not know the lore in which these characters come from and this book was my introduction. I think I struggled with HOW this book was written over anything. I have many of this authors books from early in their writing journey and not much has changed I feel. Which is ok but for me personally I think I was expecting more? better? unsure and that is just my personal opinion. I do recommend this book and it was a fairly easy read but there is triggering content in there and I would forewarn anyone sensitive to that content. I do not recall if this book had a trigger warning page and as a survivor it caught me off guard and I did have to take a bit of a break before I could continue this book because of it. The story's ending was unexpected but I really enjoyed it!

I got the blessing of being able to read the e-print and audio versions of this book. I was not sure what to expect going into this as some of my debut author reads kind of fell flat... but this book... boy was I pleasantly surprised! The narrator for the audio did a wonderful job bringing all the character POVs to life! I had the best time listening to them read this story. Eira's character absolutely brilliantly written... character I most related to in this story. Hugo's character ARC was problematic and troublesome but I LIVED for his growth the whole time!! Rhona I wasn't sure what to expect especially in the beginning but man had me on the edge of my seat to find out..... really with all the characters I absolutely NEED more of this story. The plot was absolutely fantastically written! The mystery of Eira's missing memory was fun to learn along with her. The author is a wonderful storyteller! I did spend most of the beginning and middle of this book sitting around a 4 star rating not sure exactly where it was going to go, but the rest of the middle and end of this book really got me and fell in love being able to rate it a 5 star!
