Austen’s Sense and sensibility, written in 1811, is witty, realist, critical, ironic, yet sensible. As always, her writing is harmonious, fluid, relevant and thoughtful. I enjoyed the balanced duality between Elinor & Marianne, their loyalty, resilience, perseverance and growth. The shift from the romance aspect to a more rational point of view is an interesting perspective. Austen also offers a critical view of this period’s « social orderĀ Ā», presenting the inequalities and hardships the women went through and were victims of. I can’t deny that I was a little disappointed by the ending, but it is simply due to my personal preferences and how I connected - and didn’t connect - with the different characters. All in all, I was still able to understand the logic and reasons for the author’s choices, considering how they linked to the themes approached and with the title of the book. While I enjoyed Austen’s S&S, I must admit it’s not gonna be a favorite either, but still a good recommendation!
