ellery keeps talking about someone else (nakamura seiji) being the murderer— i feel like i want to believe that, because i don’t want any of the group to be the murderer, but from a story standpoint, i think it feels too “easy” if that makes sense? and because it’s come up as a possibility so much already, i feel like it’s probably someone who hasn’t been considered as a possibility as heavily. so based on that i think it would most likely be ellery or leroux, especially ellery given his theory of the murderer being outside the group— if you in the group, i imagine you would quite like the idea that none of your friends were secretly murders, so it might help alleviate any suspicion upon him? (i feel like this bit makes less sense after writing it out, but oh well) however i think it also might make sense for poe to be the murderer— after orczy died, carr accused poe of being the murderer, so poe would have more motive to kill carr specifically, however if that were the case, he would have needed to have a way to determine who died, so i don’t know. the moral of the story is that i basically have no clue! also, note from earlier— after orczy died, the group split up, and just ellery and leroux went off together, which makes me feel like they have a lot of trust in each other— earlier in the chapter, agatha was talking about not wanting to be in a group of two because of the possibility of any of them being the murder, but they were still willing to be alone together
