  • Have you ever read a book because of a movie or TV adaptation?

I watched the first two Hunger Games movies in the cinema and couldn’t wait for the final film, so I decided to read the third book in the trilogy. There were quite a few differences between the book and the movie, which made me curious enough to go back and read the first two books as well. And I’m glad I did! I like the film adaptations, but I love the books.

  • TBR jar šŸ«™šŸ“š

Maybe in a future update they can add a TBR jar feature?

It could be a little jar icon next to the number of unread books. When we don't know what to read next we could click on the jar and it'd show us a random book from our TBR list. If the book is in the middle of a series, we could start with the first book.

The author is a genuinely terrible person. I knew a little about him before starting Coraline but I did more research after finishing. Please don't support this man. Thank you.

  • A slow reader's self reflection

Can I be vulnerable with y'all?

I'm ashamed to admit I've been a bit envious of how quickly it seems some of you are reading 🫣. I know, very silly. It's just there are so many books I am excited to get to and through, but it's frustrating when it takes me forever to complete only one. I keep stressing my own self out by not reading at an imaginary speed that I set up for myself, or comparing my pace to someone else's. These books are all within my grasp, I just can't manage to get to them quickly enough for my liking.

Work hours are picking up, kiddo needs homework help and quality time with me, domestic duties, spending time with husband, also preparing to further my education to add another certification to my resume, etc. There is always something that needs to be done. I do read at night, in the school pickup line, and on lunch breaks. I have no issues combing out time to read. I love my escape. It's just that it is always short lived.

I'm rambling on to gently remind myself that I need to be okay with my slow reading pace, and I should instead direct my focus on savoring what brings me happiness. It's not a race. Slow motion is still motion.

I am still reading, and that is what is important. ā¤ļø

    Reading Being Political

RF Kuang said in a keynote talk once (maybe an interview??) that ā€œreading is not political. what you do after you read is.ā€ I feel like this book really leans into this philosophy. do you resonate with her thought?

    tell me your rating system!

ive been struggling a bit with giving each of my books a fair rating and wanted to put my thoughts in words. i know ratings are inherently subjective, but how do you personally decide how many stars a book deserved? i try to be consistent, but its not always so straightforward when my standards change depending on the genre. anyway, i thought id share my rating system which has been flexible enough to help me grade everything from self-help to sci-fi:

āļø – on my shit list (will never read anything by this author again) āļøāļø – not my cup of tea; wouldnt recommend āļøāļøāļø – decent; had good parts but overall im neutral about it āļøāļøāļøāļø – really good! id happily recommend āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø – left a positive imprint on my brain; ill be forever obsessed (and maybe even annoying about it)

i find my reads usually fall between 3 and 4 stars so thank goodness for pagebounds half-star feature! id love to hear how others approach this. do you rate based on literary quality or how much you personally enjoyed it? are you an instinctive rater or do you refer back to a system or set of guidelines?

  • Age gap in Vampire Relationships

Or with any immortal creature. What is appropriate and what isn’t? In regards to age gaps. 🤣

I think we’ve all read a book where a vampire is hundreds of years old but stopped aging after a certain number. If a character is already like say 75 vampy years old and you meet another creature hundreds of years older, is that okay? šŸ˜† 🧐 What if the character comes from a whole vampy family and they try to set them up with other vampires that are old enough to be their grandfather šŸ‘“?

Are all vampy age gaps inappropriate? 🤣 🤯
