MiniButMighty commented on SamsSapphicReads's review of The Devil She Knows
Overall, I’d say this book was alright. This story follows Sam, a pastry chef who is looking to propose to her girlfriend. When it comes down to it, she’s completely embarrassed at the restaurant and broken up with. When going home, a demon meets her in the elevator, granting her 6 wishes, but there’s a twist. If she uses all of her wishes, she loses her soul to the devil himself. I wanted to like the storyline of this novel, I did. But I found it boring and it felt as if it jumped around a bit. Sam has literally no self worth and just lets a woman walk all over her yet STILL would sell her soul to a demon just to make her happy. That part wasn’t bad, a little slow and dragged a bit. The part that I really didn’t like was the last half. Sam knew this demon for literally less than 24 hours and feels all of these things for a demon WHILE still trying to get her girlfriend back. There were a lot of plot holes at the end and a lot of key information felt like it was missing. The ending was a major rush and honestly? A bit anti-climactic. The idea of the story was great, I loved the idea of it. The execution just fell flat for me. A bit disappointed because I was looking forward to this one. Please note: I received an arc copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you NetGalley for a copy.

curious as to how often people take books off of their tbr, and decide that they’re not going to read a book? Does anyone do a spring cleaning of theirs? I usually review my tbr at least a few times a year and take off books that have been on it for a long time and I’ve lost interest in, or that I feel like I’m just never going to read. I also do this cause it’s easy for me to get overwhelmed if I think my tbr is too long

As someone who judges the book by it's cover 🫣, I love following the artists behind those covers. Added bonus is you get to discover other books they've designed. One I'm loving lately is @radiantemozzarelle on IG. After reading Mortal Follies, I just had to follow their work. GORGEOUS work. 😍 I'm obsessed.

What's a book you started expecting to not like it and it surprised you? For me it was A God in the Shed by J-F. Dubeau.

I'm starting to hate getting book recs from friends 😭 I normally love when I have someone to talk about certain books with but most of my friends are not super active readers at this time so my pool is limited. One of my friends, I can just tell from looking at her GoodReads account, we just don't have the same taste in books almost at all which is totally fine! We don't really read the same genres but I still like to see what she's reading just in case. I tried reading one of her favorite series and ended up DNFing book 1 because I just could not handle the characters or story. But lesson learned lol. I just had another friend rec a book that I am currently reading and... I can already tell (unless it gets real good real quick) that I'll end up rating it lower. A mix of not liking the story and/or writing style. Anyways, now I've gotten 2 different friend recs that are not my cup of tea and I'm DEVESTATED like I just want to yap about books together why can't we have similar styles 😭😭

I normally try and stick to just reading 2 books at once (usually an audio and physical) but I started a buddy read and I need to slow down, and I now have a physical, audio, ebook, and the buddy read. I feel like a crazy person. Am I? 😶🌫️

I usually have to fight against the urge to re-read my favourite books and it's always hard when the urge hits in the middle of my planned reads. I brought this up with a colleague recently, while I was explaining that I only give 5 stars to my Definitely Re-reading At Some Point Again, and she was so confused??? She said she's never re-read a book and I was shocked??? HAHA After I read Emily Henry's Funny Story, I was so excited to re-read it. I've re-read The Raven Cycle series every other year. I immediately re-read The Foxhole Court a week or two after I finished the first trilogy. It feels so good re-reading a favourite, it never gets old for me. 🥺💖

I can’t believe I only found this site an hour ago. It’s wonderful. My most favourite thing is the Reddit aspect- I love the upvotes and character profile pictures. I also enjoy that you can be unknowable. Just a little book worm tracking her books with no drama✨

It's a small thing, but i've really been enjoying making lists for book recommendations. I just got back into reading this year after a long (over a decade) break, and it's just so nice to share with you all the books i'm in love with and hope that you love them too :)

Hi everyone!! What do you all count towards your reading goals? Like what kind of book formats and stuff like that. Because my goal for the year is 40 books, and so far I’ve documented reading about 27, but that doesn’t include the children’s or juvenile books I’ve read (I’m rereading diary of a wimpy kid rn). Nor does it count my manga/manhwa (save for maybe 2 or 3). Do you count books like that or only novels/long form?

Hi everyone! Here's a quick list of recent quality of life updates + bug fixes: - The most obvious: you probably noticed your feed is flooded with "badge earned" updates. There was a bug where, when a book was added to a Main Quest, those who had previously joined the Quest did not get credit for reading the newly added book. I fixed this bug and earned out badges for everyone (hence the feed getting flooded!). If you see anything still incorrect on your profile, email me at team@pagebound.co - there was a bug where the Edit option for your Reviews did not consistently show up in the ... (three dot menu) on the review card. This has been fixed! You can now edit your review anywhere you see it. - various infrastructure updates to help with server crashes + load times as we've seen a ton of growth on Pagebound over the past few weeks :) and of course, still working hard on the app! Our plan is to release to our first round of beta testers this month and publicly release before the end of the summer. Appreciate everyone's patience on this! On the bright side, there are TONS of updates on the app that address many feedback concerns we've seen lately :) Lastly, it's been so exciting to see all the new readers join us! Huge thank you to everyone who has sent good vibes, welcoming messages, and answered questions. This community is truly the best. Happy Reading 💙💜 Jennifer & Lucy

I understand "Enjoyment", "Characters" and "Plot" while reviewing a book, but what does "Quality" mean? The only thing I can think about is maybe writing style? Or how do you interpret it? Sorry if that question is stupid, English is not my native language. And sorry if that's been asked before, I couldn't find anything about it.
MiniButMighty commented on emsavidge's review of A Body Not Her Own
I think the best way that I could describe this book is clunky. Every aspect of it was done in such a disjointed way that made it hard to parse. I found the prologue a baffling way to begin the book when we could have begun with the high octane scene of Enid's death. There's a lot of telling instead of showing which made the reader experience somewhat lackluster. However, I think there are some interesting ideas here specifically the reincarnation plot. I think the concept of being forced into this role of reincarnated goddess and knowing that you will be murdered is so interesting. I'm gonna cut this author some slack because this is her first book and it is self pub. If she gets some more practice under her belt and a really solid developmental editor I think there could be something here.
Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
