I was not expecting this book to be written in third person! Immediately more distance from Snow than from Katniss.

"What must it be like, I wonder, to live in a world where food appears at the press of a button? How would I spend the hours I now commit to combing the woods for sustenance if it were so easy to come by? What do they do all day, these people in the Capitol, besides decorating their bodies and waiting around for a new shipment of tributes to roll in and die for their entertainment?"
When I first read the book, I had a very fuzzy, inaccurate idea of the geography. Suzanne describes the Capitol being "ringed by twelve districts," so I pictured something more like the map from Inferno lol. Anyway, since I last read the book in 2011, having seen the rise of MomTok and the like, it's very amusing to me (as well as prescient of SC) that the Capitol is literally Salt Lake City. Of COURSE that's the Capitol! She's not even from Utah, and this was published in 2008, so I'm very curious how familiar she was/is with Mormon culture.
As for Katniss's musings about the food... What do we do all day? How different my life would be if the pursuit of food was the only goal. And it wasn't that long ago that it would have been. The grocery store as it exists now is a very recent invention. I suppose it could disappear just as fast.
"How despicable we must seem to you."
