This was the most thrid-grade-lower-tier-fanficy book I've ever read. It was so mid.
Grim doing things with Isla who (somewhat) doesn't have her memory. Messed up. Where are your values and morals man.
The plot twists were predictable to the point they started throwing every twist possible at the end. The whole aurora being celeste thing kind of came out of no where? Her parents being killed by her guardians... alright then.
Only pro about this book was the development between isla and oro, it was nice to see them go from hating eachother to slowly caring ( though isla seriously needs to stop changing her mind EVERY SECOND PAGE).
The mischaracterisatoon of oro in the fandom is so bad, where in this book did it look like oro would sacrifice isla for the people. Literally nowhere.
Grim is really treating isla like an object bro, like gng, she has feelings too. Everything she's gone through, she's not gonna just magically accept it all and have her happy ending with you.
I will be reading the 2nd book only because I own it.
Ok so i enjoyed this A LOT MORE than i had anticipated. Usually I stray away from long book series and love triangles, and this being both is kind of ooc for me👀
But here i am, finished with the first book and very excited to see what happens next.
As much as the plot was gripping (in some scenes), the writing leaves a lot of room to grow. It's overall easy to read, but i genuinely have read fanfiction with better writing than this. It's just not very qualitative, with some passages being straight bullshit and not very understandable on the first read (sorry). Not to mention all the countless potholes.
Again, the plot was interesting, but i think that the more important scenes were rushed, meanwhile the less important scenes were dragged and repetitive (she basically goes from place to place to always search for some shit. What kind of treasure hunt is this?)
The characters are well written, although Isla infuriated me from time to time with her decisions. And some of them being straight up bland, with not a lot of complexity to them, but rather them having one character trait being their whole personality (for example, grim: witty, cleo: cold-blooded, ...)
There were a LOT of twists that i had not seen coming and had me gagged, but what meant to be one of the biggest (Celeste being Aurora) wasn't actually as shocking as the author might hope it to be.
Another thing that bothered me was the world-building. ESPECIALLY the names for the different people. Like wdym wildlings, skyling and so on??? I'm sorry but that must be one of the most uncreative options ever.
Overall, this was still enjoyable and I'm curious what happens next, with this series having 4 parts at the moment.
