This was a good end to this series. It started off a bit dull compared to the second book but once it got going it was engaging. The romance between Emily and Wendell is one of the most believable/enjoyable that i've read in awhile and all that foreshadowing about Shadow culminated in the sweetest gesture from Wendell. Watching Emilys growth throughout the series to culminate in her little band of misfits who all love her was a really nice wrap up too. I will miss this world I think!

This world is so horrifying in a really lovely way! This story was a lot more engaging from early on, while retaining all of the good elements of the first book. The slow burn pays off, theres more 'animal' companions, Emily continues to footnote her diary like a weirdo and be a wholly unreliable narrator and Wendell continues to be hoplessly in love - whats not to like

I liked this one more than the first one! The spicy scenes in particular felt less awkwardly written and it was just overall more enjoyable. I do find it odd she keeps referencing these situations in their pasts but then theres never any follow up on that (i.e Adas ex calling her and it being a big deal but we never find out why and its largely irrelevant despite being brought up 3 times)

This is cute but holy moly is it similar to the chestnut springs series by Elsie Silver. Pretty much the same group of characters by the looks. The smut is also super awkwardly written - please stop saying sugar in every sentence 😅
