‘…being an adult is about re-finding who you were when you were eight years old.’
Wow, Emily Austin has done it again. Her characters are always so vivid and engaging. I laughed and I lamented my childhood. It’s hard to feel a sense of whimsy when everything in the world makes you mad and sad.
I related so much to that feeling of being queer in a small town, automatically being the family spokesperson, and having so much built up resentment you don’t quite know what to do with it. Of losing people you feel are the only ones who understand you. If only we could all be rats.
