This was both a combination of totally expected and completely unexpected. A paradox if you will 🤣. I absolutely adore that Alix E Harrow expanded what is most definitely one of my favorite short stories ever, Six Deaths of The Saint. If any deserved to be a full length novel it is this one and she definitely delivered! She explored every nook and cranny of the universe to give us both a fairytale and a tragedy in one. Whimsy and love in a dance with cruel reality and human greed.
I adored how real the character felt, especially Owen stating how it really is, the song and dance of life. I loved the construction of the villain and how realistic they felt and I really enjoyed the perspective/POV swapping which I usually don’t really, especially when it’s such a mix of every single kind that there is.
As someone who doesn’t really enjoy reading romance, I must admit this story touched me. The exploration of so so many themes yet still manages to not be too much or too long, slightly repetitive time loop aspect but well what do you expect from a time travel story. And I really loved how Harrow constructed the narrative tho, I think I’d very quickly get a headache trying to get this right.
Overal I really enjoyed this one, and I now have the desire to reread Six Deaths of The Saint….

Another great hit by T. Kingfisher!! This is my 26th book I’ve read by her so far and first things first: keep them coming, baby!!!!
As I expected, absolutely amazing!! I had a bit of a slow start and got distracted with other things at 20% but besides that absolutely excellent experience yet again!!
She has the best way of combining the weirdness and creepiness of horror with cozy feels of a found family fantasy adventure! I really liked Selena and Copper, especially Selena’s love for Copper over her crippling anxiety.
And I found the portrayal of her feelings and anxieties pretty realistic and kinda heartbreaking.
The story itself was the typical Kingfisher-esque weirdness. Mostly cozy Selena finding herself in remote desert town Quartz Creek but on the other side a semi-horror with scorpions, road runners, dessert gods and questionable choices in sexual partners of older ladies.
Definitely adored it! And can’t wait to start my 27th T. Kingfisher book next!!
