I am still happy I am taking the time to read this tome. I know how divisive it is. When this was put on my radar last summer, I was like "I must read this and be a part of the convo." And then, after my co-teacher gave me a copy for my birthday, I immediately heard from countless to NOT read this. Abort mission. So many dissuading voices. But, here is what I will say... they were right. It is trauma porn, to the umpteenth degree. HOWEVER, I don't think that make sit unreadable. With the chunks of time I have to read throughout the year, and my genuine lurv of books (hyped or not), I have no regrets. Could I do without the Caleb storyline? The extent to which we delve into (I am currently in the THICK of) the Brother Luke story...? the amount of and degree to which self-harm is highlighted? Yeah... it's a bit much. But I am loving the writing and the way Hanya captures so many things with her words. About NYC. About love, family, friendship, loneliness, belonging, longing... ugh. Yeah, it's good, maybe even great writing... but it is def not for the faint of heart

So I've struggled a bit with Grady Hendrix and his books. I tried to read The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, but simply could not get into it and DNF'ed about a quarter of the way through. I gave him another shot with My Best Friend's Exorcism and absolutely loved it. So my question is for those of you who've read this: should I give this book a shot? Or should I try another one of his titles like How to Sell a Haunted House? Or maybe avoid his current publications?? Please help a poor grrl out :)

Interesting start and format. Iām intrigued that itās such a short book, with lots of deep topics. Weāll see!
