first of all, i looooooove this author. the way everything gets laid out in the first few chapters is so intriguing, it was hard to not finish this in two days. but as the story progresses, it felt like going in circles at times. I was latching on to a potential satisfying ending that never came, sadly. the 3 main characters are thinly defined, it's hard to root for them at times since we haven't had the time to build a bond.
for a book praised for the cannibalism subplot and the queerness of the 3 main characters, there is so little of it? I was much more intrigued by the religion, the magic system and this fictional medieval setting, and yet it was not fleshed out enough to my liking (no pun intended). who's the boy in the cavern? Who was behind the false lady and her saints? why does phosyne get to have sick ass powers like that? I guess you're supposed to discover it along the way, but I fear I was not able to catch it all. I don't want someone to hold my hand while reading, for sure, but I do like it when it points in the right direction :')
