this was not terrible but I also felt really indifferent the whole time. While I was entertained, the characters were just so vapid (and I know that’s kinda the point) but I feel like I’ve read books where even though the characters were unlikable they were still interesting. I feel like we got such a surface level understanding of why some of the characters were horrible and then they just proceeded to be insufferable the whole time :/ I also was not crazy about the main characters. Very interesting case where I actually think I enjoyed the movie much more than the book

Although this book had a kind of slow and confusing start, once the ball was rolling i could not put it down. Such a heartbreaking story, but the way it unravels throughout this small town was so interesting to see all the ripples it left through the community. I love the author’s ability to write such interesting characters and he paints them so well, I felt like I could differentiate and understand everyone’s motivations for why everything panned out the way it did. Ugh so good, despite the rough start, still a 5 star read
