i struggled with the first third, adored the middle third, and liked what the last third did, but not fully how it did it

this started out way too slow for my taste and my biggest issue is that i would have preferred some more on page build up of lucifer's character arch (like i know what we're doing bc i know the story, but i wish the book had given me some more)

also it is pretty obvious that this is self-published, the pacing is uneven and there are some writing quirks i would hope a professional editor would have polished out

to me this read like a story that started as a conversation between friends complaining about the publishing industry and then they went "we should write a book about this" and i think it made for a really bad and dull first half and a wild second half that i didn't care about bc i had just read 180 pages of nothing happening to characters who had no depth

also since when is YA a genre and not an audience category that can be any genre

I think that books marketed as both mystery and thriller should be at least either thrilling or mysterious after a third and yet this book is so bland I could fall asleep reading it. there is no interesting mystery and there is no real threat to the characters. There's also not a lot of urgency in any of the POVs to feel the time limit they're all operating under.

my best friend started watching the anime and they were having so much fun I had to immediately pick this up! it's such a good time, the perfect balance between fun and heartfelt and I can't wait to read more <:)

i was sold this as a mystery and it's not really. it's feel-good-fiction that happens to have some puzzles in it and i would not have picked it up had i known this. i really do not like feel-good-fiction and i didn't care about this unimaginative found family story. also the puzzles were too mediocre to add any intrigue. this book has no substance and it also does not trust its reader at all, every idea has to be stated explicitly and multiple times just in case someone might have missed the message that a woman doesn't have to have kids to have worth as a person and it's okay to be gay. tldr: i didn't care about anything
