i've read so many books simply for their beautiful covers and been sorely disappointed in the actual quality of the book 😭 has anyone else had this experience? and with what books?

  • Physical audiobooks?

I've been listening to audiobooks for about a year and a half, and it was all eaudiobooks. However I've started listening to an audiobook on CD I got from the library (Stephanie Foo's what my bones remember) and I'm so cheesed with it.

I remember growing up and seeing casette tape audiobooks as well as CD ones (I'm only 21 haha). Yet I've never really seen any in shops except for one lotr box set that was £80, and so I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience with owning/listening to physical audiobooks? I think they're really neat and I'm sad they're not more widespread!

  • I do judge books by their covers

I was in a book shop the other day and this thought started to form. Not that I would necessarily point blank refuse to read a book with a less than aesthetically pleasing cover, but that the beautiful ones are just more elevated in my perception. I told my mum who I was with that I would give anything to be the person who gets to design the covers of Penguin Classics & Modern Classics because they are so impeccable. Meanwhile, I observed that all the books in the crime genre, which I do not tend to read much of, have the same irritating font. I would love to give them all a makeover. Anyway, end of my little rant. Perhaps others relate to this? 😅 Maybe I'm being a little pedantic.

”’My love isn’t divided,’ she said. ‘It is multiplied.’”

    My heart!!!

As a disclaimer, my rating for this book might be slightly biased—but I could simply not imagine giving it anything less.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon is a book I picked up because I judged it by its cover—a beautiful illustration of a magical brown girl? I needed that in my life. It has sat on my shelf for quite a while, just waiting for the right moment.

This is not a book to be rushed. It may take some time to get enveloped in it; for some they may not feel immersed in it at all. I have a suspicion this book would be best enjoyed in this scenario: a loved one narrating a chapter to you by your bedside each day.

Through the themes of found family, corrupted governments, but most of all love—a beautiful story is etched out onto the page and has found itself etched onto my heart as well.

The way magic was written was gorgeous, the relationships between the characters felt real and true and lovely, and best of all this modern book actually had whimsical chapter titles.

I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a heartfelt fairytale to warm you up like a mug of hot cocoa in your hands on a bitter winter morning 🫶🏽
