Just One Bite by Miranda Rijks was a fast paced and entertaining psychological thriller that I finished in just under 2 days.

The story explores social media, online reputation, and deepfake technology and it felt incredibly relevant with today’s time which added an extra layer of tension to the plot. I found myself constantly questioning who could be trusted as the story unfolded. The short chapters and steady pacing made it an easy read, and there were some twists that genuinely surprised me.

While a few plot points felt a little far fetched at times, and I was not satisfied by some of the explainations and reasoning. It did glaze over one or two plot points. I appreciated how the novel highlighted the dangers of misinformation and the speed at which public opinion can turn against someone.

Overall, it was a gripping, timely thriller with plenty of twists, tension, and drama. If you enjoy psychological thrillers this one is definitely worth picking

Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review on NetGalley! Thank you to the publisher for providing this book!

This is the best book I’ve read all year, which seems fitting as The Bear and the Nightingale was my favorite book I read last year. It has all the whimsy and lushness you want from a book about unicorns, and it feels like seeing the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestry (or so I imagine; I’ve only seen modern reconstructions in Stirling) as is mentioned in the Afterword. Arden does villains incredibly well - you cringe, you hate them, you’re disgusted. The main character is also clever, stubborn, and under duress in a way that feels relatable despite the fifteen-century-ish setting. The world building is interesting and relies heavily on folklore that has been well-researched. Overall, the quality of writing is very, very good. I really cannot say enough good things about this book. I will definitely be rereading it whenever I want a grown-up, beautifully written, and lush fairytale.

ā€œYou should never have come back hereā€

What starts as a luxurious family getaway quickly spirals into a web of lies, secrets, and murder.

A trip to France sounds like a perfect holiday to most , but to Cassie it was one she never wanted to be on. When on her parent’s 70th birthdays, they plan to go back to the resort they used to visit when she was a teenager, she doesn’t have a way out of ā€˜Ocean Royal Palace’.

It is a story of a family returning to a location tied to a decades old death, only for history to repeat itself.

ā€˜Our perfect holiday’ is an easy to read, binge worthy, page turner. With short chapters, relentless suspense and good twists.

For me personally, it was a very quick read, very easy to flow through. It took me a day to complete the book. Some hooks worked some didn’t quite hit, some twist I saw coming and some i was blindsided by. Not the best triller out there but certainly one which would keep you glued to it.
