I really enjoyed this and def need to add more noir to my reading repertoire. The ensemble of characters are stronger than the plot. As a murder mystery, it was an interesting but simple plot. The author delves more into the main character's inner thoughts and reactions. At the start of the story, the MC is fresh off a crisis and spends the rest of the book grappling with the changes in his life... which means a less developed mystery. But I enjoyed the balance since it's the first book in a series and I'd rather have more character development up front. I'll read more in this series in the hopes the mysteries will become more complex.

Damn. I'm a 45yo who's now hooked on this series. It's going to be so hard not to rush back to the Libby app and checkout book 3 when I have other adult(ish) books waiting in my TBR line.
Random question: I've tried to read books 1 and 2 with my eyeballs, but why are they so funnier as audiobooks? I must have a tween's sense of humor, but not a tween's inner voice. 🤔 🧐 🤓

I hate her mom, and she needs to be medicated for everyone's benefit. Her poor kids.

I'm new to Pagebound and opted into a quest. This is the current read for it and I borrowed the audiobook sight unseen... or whatever the audio version of "sight unseen" is? 🤔 Ear unbent?
Since other quest members are also probably reading this forum, can y'all give me advice? How do I navigate back to "my quests?" 😅 I haven't had a chance to click around Pagebound without distractions. So any advice would be appreciated! TIA

I have been loving this audiobook up until a week ago. Too distracted, heartbroken, and axious. Renee Good was shot and killed by ICE in Minneapolis last Wednesday. Another man was shot yesterday, not fatally. Since then ICE agents have flooded the Twin Cities causing violence and chaos. I'm in Minnesota, not in the TC, but friends and family are. With thousands of ICE agents in the state, it feels inevitable that they'll spread out to other cities in the state. I hope for many things during these dark days (literally and figuratively) and my silliest wish is for everyone in who's an immigrant, a POC, or a peaceful protestor to feel safe enough to get back to normalcy. I want normal people to be able to get back to their books.
