I HATED the main character. Quite possibly the dumbest female lead I’ve seen in a book. Personally I couldn’t really look past her character. That being said, it was a good twist so I reluctantly gave it a 3.

So I was reading reviews of this book on Goodreads since it has more reviews there and there was a review marked as non-spoilery but as I got to the end there was a quote from the end of the book (like towards the end)😑 What bothered me is that it was a huge revelation and plot twist, which makes it a spoiler😩 I haven't read the whole quote, I only caught a glimpse of it and escaped but it was enough to spoil some of the conflict resolution for me😭😭 Am I overreacting or am I justified to be upset? Would you feel the same? What do you think of this issue?

Loving this so far! I always forget to read the blurb of books I pick up once I’ve bought them, so I was a bit shocked when Ben ended up dead 😂

One chapter down and, so far, the writing style is a lot less daunting than I thought it was going to be! Just another million pages to go 😅

'to fight the war against the English for ten years - only to die at last, like everyone else, in his bed'
expecting a lot of discussion around the universality of death/mortality and plenty of existential crises.
great start to this story with the new replacing the old; starting in a moment of change, not stasis.
