this has been my most anticipated read for a very long time, and it did not disappoint At All!
i truly think natalie is one of the most well written unreliable, disturbed narrators in modern fiction.
every thought she has contradicts the last, every opinion she has is damaging. she is so deeply flawed and horrible: “Why is it so hard for you to be kind?”
i was enamoured by her perspective, and even more gripped by the insaneeee plot!
this book is so much more nuanced than ‘oh so she was just crazy the whole time’. it discusses themes of mental illness, faith, child exploitation, traditionalist values, the American dream.
what happens when you realise that your life is not how you imagined it to be?
yesteryear is so fresh, so modern, so Necessary. i have been flooooored by this book and would recommend it to anyone!
