I had a very successful January. I read 5 books, the most I’ve read in a month for some time, and enjoyed every one of them!
How was everyone else’s January?

It's maybe a bit cliché, the story and writing, but it's not too fast paced or badly written and makes me giggle and kick my foot often, so I like it so far ☺️

Lately I've been reading so fast, travelling back and forth so I genuinely haven't got the time for bookmarks! 😅
That brings me to my question are you a bookmark sort of reader or do you just fold the corner over?
Also if anyone has any excellent bookmark recs I'd love to hear them! 📚🫶

i'm intrigued - does anyone else have a classic (or just super popular) book that they think is sort of underrated? like a book that is well-known and well-respected, but isn't getting its due for the right reasons? or a book with a reputation that makes people less likely to read it?
for me, i think the handmaid's tale gets the right amount of credit for worldbuilding/speculative work, but i've never seen much appreciation for atwood's narration itself, especially her depiction of re-living trauma. also, i was taught othello in school as important for its discussion of gender and race. all true, but i've seen lots of people go in thinking it's quite serious, and totally missing all of the jokes (which is half the point)
would love to hear new perspectives on old favourites!

Hi folks !!! I was wondering if you had reading goals for 2026 that were not linked to the numbers of books you read? I see a bunch of people talking about following a course/ a specific theme, getting educated in niche subjects, is there a goal for you this year that you'd like to set? I'm curious !!!
This year I decided that I was going to keep reading the series I started in 2024 or 2025 and that I haven't continued since :) I feel like I tend to be attracted by novelty and fresh out of the press books and it's been a while since I took time to immerse myself in one universe.

I've tried several times now to eat while reading and the only time I've managed to do this successfully is when the book in question was in an audio format. If I'm reading a physical book, I'm always at a loss at how I should flip the pages without having to do a whole lot of shuffling so that I don't rip the page or get food on it by accident. And then I'm supposed to... use one arm to just... hold it up the entire time I'm reading?? 🤔 That gets so exhausting so quickly! And this issue isn't really made any better with ereaders either. Sure, they're a lot better because you don't have to try to hold a heavy book open, but you still have to touch it in some capacity, and trying to prop it up with something else doesn't really work, and my kindle's slammed down on the table more than once from me accidentally knocking it over. Maybe this is just more of a 'me' thing since I have a tendency towards finger food (been getting really into sandwiches lately in particular!) but reading while eating continues to baffle me. Props to people who manage to do it without much issue, and what is your secret... And to the people who have tried but failed... be honest, how much food did you get on your book 🫣

I'm going to be busy as all hell during february, but i'd still like to stay on track with my reading goal for the year. What are some books you all recommend that are ≤200 pages? any genre is fine! :)

I really enjoyed this book! As my first read of 2026, it was easy to get into, with a great premise, interesting characters that I grew to actually care for, and honestly such a fast, fun little read. You are immediately thrown into a fairytale world full of relatable characters and intrigue that kept me guessing the entire time. The answers were never just handed to you, and I felt like every plot twist was earned and discovered alongside the characters. My absolute favourite thing about this book was the momentum of the writing. The quick chapters and fast pace kept me hooked whilst still building a rich and deep lore to dive into. A quick, witty take on good vs evil and fairytale tropes whilst still needing to find a job. A great start to my 2026, and I can't wait to read book two.
