  • Streaks are live on web!

Hi all, small announcement that streaks were just released on web! We're considering this a sort of "streaks beta" to iron out the kinks before we release on the app (which, fingers crossed, will be available before the end of the week)

You'll see a streak widget on the home feed above your currently reading books. You can edit your past reading history & progress updates by clicking that widget. You can still track progress for today's date as you always have, by clicking the progress bar.

If you have questions about how things work, please click the helper text at the bottom of the edit screen (it says "Missing a book or need help?") or comment here so we can help troubleshoot. If you see a bug, please report via the bug form!

    Thanks everyone :)

    Home Before Dark

    Home Before Dark

    Riley Sager

What was it like? Living in that house. Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism. Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father’s book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father’s death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction. In the latest thriller from New York Times bestseller Riley Sager, a woman returns to the house made famous by her father’s bestselling horror memoir. Is the place really haunted by evil forces, as her father claimed? Or are there more earthbound—and dangerous—secrets hidden within its walls?

    Florence Adler Swims Forever

    Florence Adler Swims Forever

    Rachel Beanland

Over the course of one summer that begins with a shocking tragedy, three generations of the Adler family grapple with heartbreak, romance, and the weight of family secrets. Every summer, Esther and Joseph Adler rent their house out to vacationers escaping to “America’s Playground” and move into the small apartment above their bakery. This is the apartment where they raised their two daughters, Fannie and Florence. Now Florence has returned from college, determined to spend the summer training to swim the English Channel, and Fannie, pregnant again after recently losing a baby, is on bedrest for the duration of her pregnancy. After Joseph insists they take in a mysterious young woman whom he recently helped emigrate from Nazi Germany, the apartment is bursting at the seams. When tragedy strikes, Esther makes the shocking decision to hide the truth—at least until Fannie’s baby is born—and pulls the family into an elaborate web of secret-keeping and lies, bringing long-buried tensions to the surface that reveal how quickly the act of protecting those we love can turn into betrayal after tragedy.

  • What’s an overused line you’re tired of in books and one you still love?

What’s an overused line that makes you sigh when you see it?

And what’s one that’s technically overused but still hits every time?

I’ll start! : “You’ll be the death of me” and “you little minx” makes my eyes roll so hard, but “Who did this to you??😡” still makes me so giddy 😝

  • How many books do you read at once?

I typically have 4-5 books going at a time (not counting books I’m taking an extended break from) these are a mix of genres (I try to only read one book from a genre at a time to avoid confusion). I am very much a mood reader and I will never be able to wrap my head around only reading one book at a time (unless it is a VERY RARE occasion where I get so hyper focused on a book/series that I have to read the entire thing ASAP.)

Asking cause I got down to only 3 books and while I’m close to finishing all 3 I’m itching to add more to the roster. Also what is your process for picking new books to read at the same time?

  • Worst thing you've done to a library book 🫣

Alright last time i asked for weirdest bookmarks/things found in library books. Now, what's the worst thing you've done to a library book (or worst thing you've seen done)?

This summer I was reading the Tales of Earthsea and my cat was sleeping beside me. I don't know WHAT happened but he spooked, leapt like 3 feet in the air, and launched himself across my lap, ripping 3 huge scratches into the book. I felt H O R R I B L E. I of course performed emergency surgery, taped everything up. Showed it to the circulation desk when i went to return it.. I have to say I did a real good job fixing it. They took it to decide if they needed to replace it, but they didn't! I felt sooo bad at the moment!

Alyson Stoner shares all with this memoir of her childhood experiences of Hollywood including the struggles of a childhood spent in the entertainment industry and her complicated childhood outside of the industry as well. Really powerful and meaningful, and well-written to boot. She narrated the audiobook which was a great listen.
