So I awkwardly didn’t read the description to this book or anything and thought it was another JVN memoir at first!!!
😂😂😂
Took me a few minutes of listening feeling very confused to realize that this is a fiction novel. Then once I read the description I was like, okay wait, this sounds fun! So here’s to hoping this is as enjoyable as it sounds like it will be!

"... I was raised Southern Baptist ... All is forgiven at the end of the day if you just ask for forgiveness. So with that in mind, you can lie, fornicate, drink, and steal all you want because you get a blank slate at the end of the day with your whiskey sour nightcap. ... I've never been able to reconcile what it means to be Black, queer, and American all at once."
PREACH IT, BOB!!!! as someone who also grew up in the South, it's hilarious to see the way most church-goers behave here. damning single mothers, while cheating on their wives; making off-hand comments about queer people, while gambling away their family's money; acting disgusted towards addicts who need help, when they don't go to bed without said nightcap. not every religious person goes against their faith, but it seems like those who do have a lot to say about everyone else's business like it has anything to do with them! whatever happened love thy neighbor as thyself?

Uh, introducing your subordinate to your husband who's a marriage counselor seems borderline unethical no? Not to mention it sounds like she's been doing this with all her married employees.

Well my friends at this time next week I will be in London enjoying my first retirement trip. I will then be heading to Edinburgh, Dublin, and Galway. I would love to hear a shout out to the bookstores I should visit. I am also interested in any book or reading adjacent things you think my wife and I should check out. I will be putting g together a list and mapping it out so that I don’t drive my wife to crazy.

An interesting tale for Misha. I honestly got a little lost at times with the plot of this book, navigating the complex twists and turns it took. And overall felt it was… alright. Will still continue the series.

I did not correctly anticipate how absolutely excellent this book would be. Such an enjoyable story that was an enjoyable entry point into thinking about some very deep and difficult topics. Brilliantly done. 5/5 stars.
