Post from the Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-first Century forum
“I may not find joy every day. Some days will just be hard, and I will simply exist, and that’s okay too. […] On those days, it’s important not to mourn the lack of joy but to remember how it feels, to remember that to feel at all is one of the greatest gifts we have in life. […] The reality of disability and joy means accepting that not every day is good but every day has openings for small pockets of joy.” -from Keah Brown’s essay on Nurturing Black Disabled Joy
This is so powerful- living in a disabled body and coping with chronic pain means these words resonate more than I can name. As I sit in a flare of pain at this very moment I think of the joy simple pleasure such as reading and finding communion in the words shared by others brings. These little moments of joy are poignant and precious.

Some of you are reading so much with full time jobs😭 I gotta know what y’all do and how many hours you’re doing it. I know a few people are lucky enough to get to read on the job! That’s the dream.
