Respect the balance ⚖️
Fantasy books with engaging plots, fascinating world building, quality characters and complex relationships bc I’m sick of authors choosing one over the others (ie fourth wing saying fuck a consistent plot, let’s just have them fuck)
The worlds don’t exist to house the characters, the plot isn’t just there to go in between hook ups and actions of the characters match with their traits 😱
And then also cruel prince bc that shits gonna hit every. Single. Time. ✊✊✊ (and some wlw bc yum)

Right. So. Hmm. This book felt like it was missing half of its chapters and was overall wishy washy. (No but actually there was one point where we went from Kian and Scarlett on the phone to Kian running to find Scarlett and she’s sobbing in his arms? Nothing happened in between. I was so ???) So many traits were ascribed to Kian and Scarlett that we didn’t really see, and major plot points meant nothing. Why was Scarlett studying all the time? Why did she drop premed? What was her time in the shelter like? Scarlett tutoring kian was so irrelevant, their deal made 0 sense, like I tutor you and you fix my reputation by having me go on dates? No, actually, just one singular date. Then it’s never addressed again like 😭😭. Also they go from not knowing each other to Scarlett going with him to see his mom with ZERO buildup, it just didn’t make sense to me. Oh and the coaches daughter plot? A one chapter issue, not necessary at all. The stuff with victor? Mostly handled off page. We don’t even really really get into why Scarlett was sleeping around, it’s spelled out for us but I would have liked to see the clear daddy issues of it all dug into a bit more. The only thing that really felt like decently ISH addressed was Kians thing with his sister but even that was meh. Idk man so many themes and plot points were thrown in here with 0 actual depth. Bonus star for no stupid ass nickname tho!

Wait? Huh? What? So they were on the phone. Fell asleep. It’s the next evening, she’s studying and then unprompted he runs to her house and holds her while she cries?? And then she says “take me home” to his house? What? That was so out of nowhere it made 0 sense I genuinely think I must have skipped a chapter somehow

Sigh. Sighhhhhh. I should have known I wouldn’t love this based on how I felt about Rory and hazels book. There were parts I liked tho The postives: Georgias career was cool and I loved that there was detail about her goals and how she was achieving them, not just saying “oh she wants to help athletes” and then not mentioning it again. I loved her coaching the kids that was adorable. (But also as a Georgia who is currently being rejected from the med schools she’s applying to and who would want to maybe do sports medicine, fuck you fictional Dr Georgia) oh and I liked her shoes The bad: sleep walking bc ur stressed about someone you don’t really care about as a Dr who sees people get injured all the time is dumb. Hellfire is so fucking dumb. The sex was weird and Georgias personality honestly did not give a need for control so giving up control in the bedroom didn’t make sense. (Also omg ew get ur tongue out of her asshole)(that’s just not for me sorry), also would have loved a mention of the 10 million impacting her research at the end idk, also Alexei fell super flat to me. Also side note, this is basically the same thing as Play Along by Liz tomforde, like idk man, all of these are the same. Anywho I will not be reading anymore Stephanie archer books.

This was a dnf for me after like page 6. I admit that it’s partially bc I could not handle a main character with the name “cubby” and I just couldn’t do a “let’s kiss for practice but ate both straight” backstory like it’s 2026.
